Astonished, Yet at Home! had not updated when I did my daily Louisiana Catholic blogger roundup but he has now. I have been without a computer so I missed some of the excitement on his blog the last few days.
We have a major controversial case involving possible Euthanasia that happened in the Baptist hospital in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina occurred.
Tobias had this entry on the 31st of August called Republican Royal Alexander Distances Himself from Pro-Life Movement in the Katrina Euthanasia Investigation . Well Royal ALexander's family took note and entered the "conversation" in the com boxes.
Let me be upfront here. I know Royal and have the utmost respect for him. I like him and like him I am a Republican. I also know that Royal is not only Catholic but has pro-life views. As to Foti I campaigned against him 4 years ago. I also hated how he handled himself in the nursing home case where all those people died. However , I do have concerns over what happened in this Baptist Memorial case. I am also watching closely to see how how Royal Alexandria handles this. I am at this point undecided as to what happened in those horrible days.
However I do find it refreshing that Royal's family is engaging the Louisiana Catholic blogs. I also note that you can tell the Alexandria family are serious Catholics. Louisiana Catholics just don't start referring to Chesterton as Royal's Sister in Law does in the comment section without being in that environment.
It gets a tad heated in the comment section. Of course Astonished opened the door to that with ending his post by stating:
"So here is the dilemma for the pro-life activists. Do you stick with principle and vote to re-elect pro-life Democrat Charles Foti, or do you abandon your defense of the dignity of human life to play the part of the whore or the kept woman for the GOP power brokers?" Start throwing terms like Whore around and I would expect a heated response lol.
HE has updated here Busy Day Today - And More on Royal Alexander's Pro-Life Credentials . I do think Royal Alexander needs to realize that even people like me that are open to him do not want an injustice to occur on either side. That also means he better explain his position on this case clearly. My mind is still not yet made up. I am not yet at Tobias's position that Royal is betraying his pro-life principles. That is simply because I have not made a final decision on what I think happened in those horrible days. I am open to Royal but he needs to make clear that he thinks his position is(1) right(legally) and moral and (2) not trying to take advantage of what I see as a very close call.
