Priest Receives the Purple Heart. Catholics in the Military, and Being a Altar Server with A Gun

Like many of of our service people, what an inspiration. Check out his story at here at the Deacon's Bench Blog. If your priest is doing this important work in the Guard or the Reserve please support him. So find out more about our Catholic Men and Women in the military go here to ArchDiocese for the Military Services.

This is a great site that gives ways we can support our Catholics in Uniform. I am putting this one on my blog links.

At the above site one can find this account from just last week from a Priest in Fallujah. The picture you see above is of Senior Airman Steven Drew, a chaplain assistant, as he prepares for a service at the chapel here. The assistants prepare the chapel for services, are liaisons for the chaplains and provide force protection for them. Priest and and other Ministers cannot carry guns. The guy above not only helps the Priests in all he does but is in charge of protecting him. In other words he is the guy that shoots if they come under attack. I have read several stories about these men and women that have this important job. I bet they have some stories to tell. Pray for them also as they do their important work.

Various countires make sure that the needs and Catholic witness are served in the military. Here is the Australian Diocese for those brave men and women.

This is probally going to be a pet project of mine for this blog. There are people serving at faraway airforce bases and on Carrier groups far from the usual Catholic resources who need to be ministered too. The workers are few. We need to pray that they increase. I is also important to remember that this ministry does not just occur on the front Lines of Iraq or Afghanistan. If you have a Military Base in your community there is important work being done there as to the Catholic faith. Let us support that.
