August Events of Interest

In Jackson at the Mississippi Museum of Art the incredible exhibit Between God and Man Angels in Italian Art is continuing its exhibition till December. Between God and Man: Angels in Italian Art is being curated by the Director General of the Vatican Museums, Dr. Francesco Buranelli, for an exclusive showing at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Comprised of more than 150 works, Angels will introduce the visitor to the complex and glorious world of Angels, explaining their hierarchy, their attributes and various actions, while at the same time creating an evocative journey through the Golden Age of Italian Art. The exhibition features works in various mediums, although focusing on paintings, and from various time periods, ranging from ancient to modern. It marks the first time many of these works have traveled to America, and they will return to Italy after this seven-month show. Please visit the Web Site for more details.

NEW ORLEANS MUSEUM OF ART
The New Orleans Museum of Art has two new exhibitions. The first exhibition being
"Windows of Heaven, Russian Icons." "Windows of Heaven, Russian Icons" will be of interest to anyone who enjoys religious art and ornate images.
The second exhibition is "Albrecht Durer: Renaissance Engravings and Woodcuts". The original engravings and woodcuts dating from 1496 to 1519 include episodes from the Old and New Testament of the Holy Bible, classical mythology, allegories and scenes of everyday life.

Art from Vatican lands in Mississippi

This is in Jackson through the end of the year. Not exactly a super short drive but one that is likely to be worth it.

That is a very good article. I intend to try to hit it. Jackson actually gets some nice exhibits.

From Baton Rouge you can combine with it stoopping off someplace fun in Natchez if you go the long way back or maybe going to Mass at that beautiful small Catholic Chruch in Port Gisbson

Thank you for this posting! I was trying to find out when the Charlene Richard mass was, and was having no luck!

I saw the Russian Icons show at the New Orleans Museum of Art last month; it's a pretty good little show. Perhaps not worth a special trip on its own to the City, but well worth going to see if you are in New Orleans anyway.
