Michael Yon's Latest on Iraq - Is there Progress or Not?

From Burke to Kirk and Beyond... the Catholic Convert :) , Lawyer, :) and Alabama Fan :( on my blogroll has a link to a Michael Yon Piece on the Iraqi Surge at Michael Yon in WSJ on the Surge .

It is a good read. I value highly whatever Yon or indeed Michael Totten write as to Iraq. They are pretty objective and both have been highly critical of the Bush Administration handling of Iraq in the past. In other words they can not be easily accused of "Cheer leading" Trey do not sugar coat what is happening nor do they predict disaster when it is not warranted.

If you are an American, an Catholic, over 18, registered or plan to register to vote , and plan to participate in the Fall elections I would give it a look. The Catholic Bishops in their latest statement ( that is often ignored) said:
We do not have specific competence in political, economic and military strategies and do not assess particular tactics, but we can, as teachers, share a moral tradition to help inform policy choices. Our Catholic teaching on war and peace offers hard questions, not easy answers. Our nation must now focus more on the ethics of exit than on the ethics of intervention. The grave moral concerns we and others raised prior to the war now give way to new moral questions. In the current situation the traditional principles of “noncombatant immunity” and “probability of success” suggest these questions: How can we minimize the further loss of human lives? What actions will do the most good and least harm? What elements of a responsible transition are attainable? How can they be achieved? What actions should be avoided? How can decision makers take into account both the realities and setbacks in Iraq and the likely human
consequences of rapid withdrawal?.

Well one can hardly make a informed judgment of Probability of Success if one is not paying attention and contrary to what you might have heard the Official Catholic Church "Dogma"on this subject is not necessarily the Hillary and Obama rapid withdrawal approach.

The war might have been a mistake, but premature withdrawal would probably result in chaos and death for tens of thousands.

I've updated my link and linked to several old posts.
