Father Z has a great post on what is being remembered today at You’ve been warned . It is ante diem vi idus octobres which even the Catholic Church refers to this date as today. He also mentions the fact that today is the day of the death of Germanicus in A.D. 19, the adopted son of Tiberius.
Father notes the great book and TV series(it ran on Public television) I, Claudius . I remember watching that and just be glued. I highly recommend that kids be shown this series. Yeah it has got some brief nudity and of course orgies are referenced etc etc. However when Caligula is a main character you can't avoid it. I was hooked on Roman history from that day forward.
