Pro-Lifers , Conservatives, and Christians Need to take Lessons From the David Duke Race

I have posted before what I think about these threats to bolt the GOP if Giuliani gets the nomination. I still find this pretty stupid how this is playing out.. That is one reason why I think this is more about making money off direct Mail, email Solicitations, and the selling of mailing list.

The whole gambit of threatening to bolt the GOP if Giuliani gets in makes no sense. First this is not 1960. This is not an era where families have major party loyalty or have that as a part of their daily lives. No one has nowadays a portrait of FDR in their living room. Chances are your Aunt Kay is not the local ward Captain for the Democrats or Uncle Jerry is down at Republican party meetings. The point being that the average Republican or Democrat primary voter is not affected by all this or EVEN AWARE. I can tell you that the average Republican voter(that just decided to put a R by their name) is not going to go I better vote anti Giuliani because the GOP is going to go boom if I don't.

However VOTERS DO react from being told what to do and react if there are smells of threats. Often in the negative sense.

When David Duke ran for Louisiana statewide office to say the least it was interesting. The national media and thousands of organizations outside Louisiana handled that all wrong. There were threats of withdrawing conventions from New Orleans. There were ADS run in the media from out of staters that basically said please ignorant Louisiana folks do not do this. IF you do prepare to suffer the consequences.

When elections day came you could divide the Duke Vote in several segments. They were the (1)"true racists(the minority), 2) People who hated the incumbent, and (3) people who honestly bought into Duke's statements that he had changed.

However there was one group that many have often estimated that was 25 to 30 percent of his vote. Those people were folks that in the privacy of the voting booth , tired of being told what to do and threatened for months said" The hell with it I shall show them" and proceeded to vote for Duke. Never underestimate how a generally non interested voter will do the opposite of what you want them to do when there are threats in the air.

Instead of threats months before a election, Pro lifers and conservatives should be using their energy to elect a PRO -Life nominee. It is not like their is a shortage of qualified people. . HINT LOOK AT HUCKABEE. If people focus on electing people than threatening to bolt then we might win. I am very afraid that this is going to backfire on our pro-life people running.
