LSU Football Fans HATE AMERICA- Kentucky Paper

Good grief. The horror stories that are largely myths about fans in the SEC Conference get more out of hand each week. Every Sunday Morning every SEC football fan board is full of people that portray their experience with other schools fans as something akin to meeting recruits for al qaeda

This is the latest gem that was published in the University of Kentucky Student Newspaper.

Letter to the editor: LSU fans showed lack of respect Saturday-
This Saturday I witnessed one of the most appalling things I've ever seen or heard. As the UK marching band paid homage to our armed forces, our nation and our state by playing "God Bless America," the national anthem and "My Old Kentucky Home," fans from Louisiana State University booed and chanted.
Their behavior was both unforgivable and obnoxious.A bit of friendly competition between fans at a football game is fine. Booing during our fight song is rude, yet acceptable. But LSU fans crossed the line with their "spirit." The indignation I felt is unparalleled.
After the pre-game performance, I felt pride in the UK fan base. They should be commended on their behavior and their spirit. Our players showed LSU we never give up; our behavior showed LSU we are to be respected; and our win showed LSU we are a force to be reckoned with

Ok even though this person is a Journalism major , she is still a Freshman. Therefore its likely she hasn't taken one journalism class her first semester

Now If I was a Journalist before I wrote this letter I would ask the following questions:

(1)Why would Deep South Southerners, from a very RED red state known for patriotism, be booing during the National Anthem, and Frackin God Bless America?

(2) Why Would people from a state that has two military bases and a high percentage of Solders in the US Military be booing and chanting during this time?

(3) Why would LSU fans , who have no traditional heated fan hatred of Kentucky(unlike Bama, Auburn, or Ole Miss) be doing all this stuff here but not at the before mention stadiums?

(4) Why did we not hear of reports of fights break out between people in the LSU section that could not believe that some fellow LSU fans were disrespecting the Armed forces.

In other words something else might be going on. Well in fact it was. I have had the following accounts confirmed by a friend of mine(that served in Iraq TWICE) that was at the game.

I started a thread on this here at my football board. Here are a few of the responses:

I was there, nobody booed during the national anthem or god bless america, but the lower level lsu sections did chant during my old kentucky home. There was no booing involved, and the chants started right before or at the very beginning of my old kentucky home...so I don't believe lsu fans knew it was coming.

I was there in the LSU student section, right behind our band. We did not boo during God Bless America, we sang it. We did not do anything during the national anthem besides put our hand on our heart and sing that as well. (Now, Kentucky's band had absolutely no volume. You couldn't hear them no matter how hard you tried. So we sang along with the words on the Jumbo-tron and we ended up finishing a little early. So "... and the home of the TIGERS!" came out early. But it was not on purpose) We definitely started going nuts after that. Go - Tigers. L-S-U. etc. It wasn't until the Kentucky fans started to boo us, that we realized they were still singing. You couldn't hear the people singing, and you certainly couldn't hear the band. We looked on the jumbo-tron again and saw words, and literally everybody shut up so they could finish. It wasn't out of disrespect. In Tiger Stadium, the national anthem is promptly followed by the stadium getting loud and east and west sides getting a Go Tigers going.

PurpleGuy is quite accurate in his account of what happened. The only booing was from the KY fans during the playing of "My Old kentucky Home", when they began to boo the LSU fans for cheering during the song. It was then the LSU fans realized what was going on and quickly stopped.

That is crap. I was there. There was a section of LSU students right behind the pep band who started to do the "geaux" "tigers" chant with another section of tiger fans during "My old Kentucky home". The KY faithful then booed when they heard this and the LSU section immediately stopped. The band was facing the other direction on the field and we could not hear them playing from the field at all. I had been to games there before and knew of the tradition, so I knew what was going on. No one booed during the national anthem or God Bless America. That is BS.

Now of course this has been talked about by LSU fans for two dayson numerous blogs and boards. Now unless everyone is LYING and amazing CONSISTENT this seems pretty plausible. But have no doubt the myth will continue and be spread.

Stay Tuned Next WEEK- LSU fans molest little girls and Vanderbilt fans in the heat of the moment are heard saying "Darn"
