ST. GABRIEL CATHOLIC CHURCH
Believed to be the oldest Catholic church structure in Louisiana, St. Gabriel Church has been lovingly restored and maintained by the church congregation. It was built in 1769 and has been moved several times. The steeple of the church, believed to be made primarily of silver, was a gift from the Queen of Spain in 1770. The church is no longer used by the large Catholic congregation in St. Gabriel, but is often the setting for photographs or picnics. It is located on the River Road in St. Gabriel but is not open to the public.
First let me introduce a New Louisiana Catholic Blogger to the blog. That is Alive and Young. He is a Louisiana Resident that shall be returning to the State next year. So we are putting him on the list since his absence is just of a temp nature. He has a pretty funny post called Papal Envy .
Astonished, Yet at Home! has several post up. (HEY ASTONISHED IF YOU ARE READING THIS DO YOU HAVE TICKETS TO THE LSU GAME YOU ARE NOT USING :) ). Keep his dad in your prayers as he tell us at Thank God . I think he has a wonderful post called Childlikeness which is very very good. Besides football there is baseball going on of course. He has a interesting post up called Something Right About the Rockies . It appears that there is quite a Christian influence on that team. A very nice post here that relates to a article written by the Preacher to the Papal Household. That is his post The Love of Francis and Clare . A post on how we deal with anger at Forgiving Like Jesus Forgave . This is a nice post with a link to a article about the LSU Rural life museum at Visiting with the Past is a Nice Pastime . He has A Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi here. Lots of link here at Saint Francis of Assisi .
Tobias has another Great read here at More Thoughts on the Man Who Introduced Me to Saint Francis. A very nice post on what John Paul the II thought as to social sin at Under the Sign of Love . I like this piece that deals with Catholic Social Thought and the a big Church Father. Check out Do We Redeem Society or Create a New One? Tobias also has a post that Louisiana Catholic and blogger Michael Denton wrote for the LSU paper that is pretty funny. I might highlight this later. GO see Michael Denton Strikes Again .
Thoughts & Ruminations from Fr. Ryan has a blurb on a book that he asks us to read about the Jesuits. I read this a couple of years back and I agree it is great. Go to his Oct 4th entry to see that.
From The Recamier again has a nice post today. She of course talks about Saint Francis of Assisi (died 1226) that was the Saint we honored yesterday. She also reminds us of many of yesterday historical facts. Like Sputnik was launched on yesterdays date. Please keep her in your prayers as she is dealing with health issues too that she describes.
As I posted already the Catholic Underground has their new podcast up here.
Catholic Tube has again some good Catholic vids up. Check out Keyes vs Obama on Religion and Politics and his post St. Faustina. HE has another vid on this great Catholic ministry Adore 2097 Nashville. Fianlly he has this great pro-life vid 40 Days For Life - Day 9
