Interesting Development in Southern Baptist Convention

The Action Institute blog reports here at Climate change warrior to head the SBC?

Rumor has it that the Rev. Johnny Hunt is on the short list (if you consider six guys “short”) to preside over the Southern Baptist Convention this summer.
Big Daddy Weave notes that Reverend Hunt signed the Southern Baptist Environment and Climate Initiative.
Could his signature on this initiative cause him trouble during the nomination process? Were he to be elected, would it signal a
shift in the prevailing Southern Baptist Convention reluctance to engage issues like climate and energy?
We report, you decide. And
Jon Merritt, call your office…

This is not that shocking to me. If people got past their cartoon version of Southern Baptist and especially the Press they could see things like this coming.

I am not sure he will get it but your average Southern Baptist is concerned about these issues. This really should not be shocking. Where Southern Baptist dominate so does gun ownership and hunting and fishing!!! Needless to say many of these people are tuned in to the surroundings more than others. They are not wacko fringe. However most I feel think we might as well do a little prevention- What could it hurt is the viewpoint I get from my mostly Baptist neighbors

Will he win? I have no idea. I get more removed from my Baptist days as the years go on and so miss out on what are the big issues in the convention. It seemed that the major battle is looming over a very aggressive Calvinism that was starting to assert itself. Needless to say many Baptist are not willing to embrace this. So who knows but is of interest.
