What Catholic Things Are Going In the Diocese of Alexandria Louisiana

The Diocese of Alexandria Louisiana has their new Newspaper edition up(Feb 18th) for the month. It is available in PDF format here. By the way kudos to whoever is running their Internet site. It always loads fast. Sometimes when I am loading the New Orleans Catholic Paper , I feel like I could go to the mall and back.

Here are a few things that caught my eye. Be sure to read the whole thing. I shall try to do the new edition of the Baton Rouge and New Orleans and Shreveport Papers this week. Hopefully all Louisiana Diocesan papers will be online soon.

First we see a great picture and headline on the front page that is Catholic Schools
Honor Choir-New program introduces students to liturgical music
. Wonderful. Sadly there appears to be no article about this exciting development. Though we learn on page 19 that they shall be debuting at the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral.

Page 2 has a nice article from the Catholic News Service called Cardinal hopes synod will draw Catholics closer to Scripture. Also there is article on Archbishop Hughes is calling for Louisiana ethic reform

Page 6 has a article on called St. Joseph Abbey to host monastic discernment program March 19-24 which is of much local interest and state wide interest

I thought page 7 has a excellent article on a wonderful ministry. It is called Handmaid Servants, Sons of Mary, the Helper care for priests in hospital or recuperating at home. What a need that is being addressed.

They have part 2 of an great article on the oldest active priest in the Diocese of Alexandria that starts on on page 9. Lot so pics and history. It is entitled Msgr. Joe Susi Life as a priest leads young Fr. Susi down many Louisiana roads. This should be of interest to Catholics in all of North Louisiana. Remember at one time(until fairly recently) all of North Louisiana was the Diocese of Alexandria. The article talks about his stops up here he has done

Page 13 has a page of pictures of kids involved in Catholic School Week activities. Including some kids that are dressed in Mice costumes that are truly frightening and no doubt will give me nightmares

Page 14 has a wonderful article called Old Catholic Cemetery established in early 1800s. Lots of history here. It appears this is a French Creole cemetery located in Big Island area near Deville

Page 15 is sort of a followup KC council takes on project to clean up Old Catholic Cemetery.

Page 17 has a nice article called Wayne Weible: Blessed Mother wants message of Medjugorje renewed in La.

Pages 18 and 19 have all the events that are happening around the Diocese so be sure to check that out. Lots of good info there.
