LSU Football Picks Up Another Stud Player- Welcome Aboard Kevin Minter!!!

My Goodness the LSU Football 2009 Recruiting Class verbal commits is just so stellar it is silly. I never remember having such a great quality class this EARLY!!! Before yesterday we had the following Verbals:
Michael Ford, RB (5'10", 200 lb, Leesville, LA)
Henry Orelus, C (6'2", 257 lb, Belle Glade, FL)
Mike Brockers, DE (6'6", 260 lb, Houston, TX)
Janzen Jackson, DB (6'1", 185 lb, Lake Charles, LA)
Josh Downs, DL (6'1", 262lb, Bastrop, LA)
Drayton Calhoun, ATH (6'0", 175lb, Tucker, GA)
Russell Shepard, ATH (6'2", 183, Houston, TX)
Chris Garrett, QB (6'4", 220, Tupelo, MS)
Dexter Pratt, RB (6'2", 220, Navasota, TX)

Note this list is major talent and we have hardly added the LOUISIANA boys yet.

Yesterday we got another name we can add to the list. That is the Georgia Peachtree Ridge High linebacker Kevin Minter who gave LSU coach Les Miles his verbal commitment Saturday . He happens to be the 5th best rated linebacker of the entire USA for the 2009 class as ratd by Scout.com!!!

The Advocate reports:
LSU coach Les Miles a first-hand account of his commitment Saturday but the native of Suwanee, Ga., opted to do it before the Tigers began their spring game in Tiger Stadium.
“I kind of knew I was going to do it when I came today,” Minter said. “When I first visited LSU (three weeks ago) I just felt at home. I had a couple family members try and tell me to wait but I was ready this morning to go ahead and commit and I wanted to be able to tell coach Miles in person. He was really happy.”

That’s easy to understand, considering the 6-foot, 230-pound Minter is regarded as the nation’s fifth-ranked middle linebacker by Scout.com. Minter increased LSU’s overall commitment total to 10, including the seventh from an out-of-state prospect and second from a player from Georgia, joining athlete Drayton Calhoun of Tucker.

Minter, who is academically qualified, picked LSU over a total of 13 other scholarship offers, including Southeastern Conference schools such as Alabama, Kentucky, South Carolina and Ole Miss.
Minter, who grew up a fan of Georgia where his father attended school, said his finalists were LSU and Southern California.

“He just wanted to me to go wherever I fit,” Minter said of his father’s advice.
Minter’s started for the past three seasons at Peachtree Ridge where he teamed with current LSU signee Derrick Bryant last season.

Minter earned first-team All-District 7-5A honors, All-Gwinett County laurels and was chosen honorable mention Class 5A All-State after recording 137 tackles, helping his team to a 8-4 record and appearance in the second round of the state playoffs.

“Derrick’s been talking to me about going to LSU,” said Minter, also a blocking fullback on offense.
Minter, who was recruited by co-LSU defensive coordinator Bradley Dale Peveto, said Peveto indicated he could play either of the three linebacker positions.

“When I came here for the first time I was able to see how great the coaches were,” Minter said. “Coach Miles is a great coach and I really liked that. So I just decided to go ahead and do it
.”

Here is his Rivals profile.

According to Dandy Don "LSU entertained what looked like 30-40 prospects for the Spring game including TE/DE William Ming (6'4", 250) from Athens, Alabama. Ming is one of the most highly recruited players in the South with scholarship offers from Notre Dame, USC, Alabama and LSU, to name a few.LSU picked up a commitment from Kevin Minter from Peachtree, Georgia Saturday morning and will likely pick up a couple more commitments in the next week. LSU signee Derrick Bryant is a former teammate of Kevin Minter."

The TD LSU recruiting board is good place to check out for the latest on such funs topics as this.
