I disagree with Joshua Mercer that the Perry's main problem is this. Though how he handled the question to you was not great. McCain was for the Dream Act when he ran and he won of course.
But I think this brings some sanity into this.

I fear Perry does have a problem. The right is so far right they have lost their souls. Since 2008 the Tanton Minions have had quite a bit of time to spread their special kind of hate. It sickens me, as well you know.

I think of course this is a issue he has to combat. I just his biggest problem is he still seems not to have got a meeage together or how to deliver it. Which makes sense since he just got it compared to the others
But you are right the Tanton folks are being very aggressive this week
