2 Catholic Schools Make it to Louisiana State Playoffs (Plus a Look at other Teams)

Well the the road to the Superdome is set!!! Looking at these match ups I think these could be some record crowds for the Dome for High School football Finals

On a non Louisiana note in our sister state next door in Mississippi if you did not hear Meridian defeated South Panola 26-20 in OT to snap the nation's longest winning streak at 89 games!!

First to the Catholic Schools. Then there were TWO. There actually should have been three if Catholic Schools had not an epic fail across the board in 5-A across the board in the second round in some bizarre games

Let us look at 4-A action where Archbishop Shaw beats Salmen 14 to 10. From what I understand this was a wild game with Salmen actually getting the go ahead score with like 5 second to go ahead but got the TD called back on illegal procedure play. The Shaw Defense came up with a great play on Defense to win with 0 showing on the clock. Shaw really dug down to get to the playoffs and now they shall play in the finals in the Dome in their own backyard. Shaw goes on to play a very good Belle Chase team from just down the road that had a huge upset over Bastrop tonight.

There was Catholic versus Catholic show down in the 3- A Semi Finals with Redemptorist of Baton Rouge losing to traditional power of 3 a football Notre Dame of Crowley 17 to 10. Notre Dame goes to play a very impressive Lutcher team in the Dome for all the marbles.

Moving on to other scores. In 1-A action my local team the Haynesville Tors went down to defeat 10,000 miles down south ( I am sure the bus ride home will feel like 10,000 miles) against what has been a very impressive
South Plaquemines team. They beat Haynesville 46 to 14. For those not familiar with South Plaquemines this school is the result of three school consolidations after Katrina. They are a power house. They will play Christian Life in the Dome

Christian Life on the other side of the 1-A bracket beat an increasing impressive Delhi Charter tonight 25 to 13 and as I mentioned will play Southern Plaquemines. I have to think Plaquemines will be favored.

In 2-A we have at the end of the night what shall be a classic next week against two schools that are Louisiana legends. First Evangel of Shreveport just mopped the floor against St James 31 to 7. This sets up a matchup in the 2 A FINAL against...

You guess it John Curtis of the New Orleans area that just beat the snot out of (Evangel cross city Rival by the way) Calvary Baptist 48 to 0. Now it might be the North Louisiana Homer in me and an inbred instinct to hate all things John Curtis but I think Evangel should be favored in this game. This will be one of the biggie games next week in the SuperDome.

In 3-A action I mentioned earlier that Notre Dame won. They shall be playing in the Dome a very talented Lutcher team that tonight beat Cecilia 58 to 26. I think this shall be a very well attended game. I was listening to a state wide wrap up show and the Coach of Lutcher said they held the 3-A attendance record in the Dome when they went to the finals. I am not sure who is favored in this game but I think Notre Dame will have their hands full

In 4-A action Bastrop had a heartbreaking loss to Belle Chase 35 to 34. Ruben Randle (who is the one of the best High School stusd in the country and wanted by LSU, Bama and Oklahoma) was trying to make something happen with 2 minutes to go and threw an interception. I feel bad for Bastrop because with the paper mill closing in that town who knows if their dominace of 4-A will continue. I guess feel bad for the town. This was an upset I was not expecting

Belle Chasse goes and plays Shaw. I hate to say it but I think Belle Chase could very well win this one. We shall see. The Catholic boys at Shaw has some fight. Again this game will bring in the crowds

Finally 5-A and the game I was listening too tonight. West Monroe just manhandled a very good Barbe team from Lake Charles and gave them their first loss of the season. Of course it was the loss that ends all. They beat Barbe 47 to 12. Barbe seemed hurt by injuries early on including to their QB. This sets up a pretty big matchup for the big 5-A game

That is West Monroe versus Destrehan. Destrehan beat a very good Central team of Baton Rouge that had at least for me been flying below my radar for most of the season. Destrehan beat Cental 21 to 14. I think this will be a great game. West Monroe should travel very very well down there and we could have a pretty high attendance at this game. At this point I have got to think West Monroe is favored. They are really clicking right now. Plus Destrehan keeps showing some weakness in these playoff games and almost shooting themselves in the foot. I think though this will be a very close game and a classic
