In South Louisiana 2011 Blessing Of the Shrimp Fleet ( Article Vid Plus Photos)

A great article and vid in the Daily Comet at Chauvin shrimpers celebrate annual rite . Be sure to see the photo gallery (note having a problem linking photos . It's on the side) :

This part caught my eye:

The blessing, like other south-Louisiana celebrations, strikes a balance between religious observation and debauchery. But that has caused friction in recent years, with some in the Chauvin community expressing displeasure with the rising prominence of drinking, occasional flashing and other secular diversions. That division is one reason there were questions as to whether the Chauvin boat blessing would take place this year.

I think "debauchery" is a tad too strong of a word to use for most south-Louisian celebrations. However it is interesting that the Diocese seems to be indicating a proper balance toward Feasting and the Religious rite must be kept or they might just stop it in this town . It would be interesting to see how the Dioceses thought it went.

This design is spectacular! You most certainly know how to keep
a reader amused. Between your wit and your
videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost.
..HaHa!) Wonderful job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and
more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
