I mention the other day the Diocese of Wichita Kansas with only 120,000 Catholics has 46 Vocations to the priesthood the other day.
I forgot to mention this is also a Diocese where they have 36 Catholic schools and parents can basically send their kids to them for free.
The Anchoress up in New York takes a look at the Dicoese of Kansas City that also is a hotbed of Vocations and has a ton of stuff going on in this entry. See Friday Linkaround.
She asks the sensible question similar to the one I keep asking as when I see things like this happen . She says "I wish other bishops (like those in New York) would raise their heads and perhaps try to do what successful bishops are doing, but we’re still largely stuck in the “feel good” 1970’s over here, with mostly unattractive churches, bad diocesan television, and zero visibility of young, active, lively religious congregations that can entice others".
What is interesting is this sort of geographical pattern of great vocations and Catholic Activity in the midwest. You see it in Wichita going further East to Kansas City going further East into the Diocese of St Louis and going further East right across the River into that section of Illinois.
It is getting very counter productive just to complain about problems in the USA Church and not examine what is going very right in certain Dioceses. In fact there seems at times to be a effort not to talk about it. What are people afraid of?
