Ok first things first this morning. We have to talk about the premiere of the last shows for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. It did not disappoint.
Last night there was a interview released about 1:am central on a Chicago Tribune blog with the writers of the BSG that clears up things and also tears down certain theories that we might be holding on too. See 'Battlestar Galactica's' Ron Moore addresses the shocking developments of 'Sometimes a Great Notion'
So after watching last nights show and looking at this interviews what do we know?
Is this really Earth? Yes it is as the interview shows. I was one of those clinging to the notion that this was not Earth. At the end of year three I suppose we all know that sort of last parting shot as the audience is zooming away from the Battle scene through the Galaxy through what looks like our Solar System and there is Earth with parts of the North America clearly visible. The filming of when the fleet arrived at Earth plus when landed seemed to me to be just Ocean. The shots when they landed were very clouded over land masses. One could not shot and say hey that is SPAIN!!! However this is EARTH according to the interview. Update- Let me say that perhaps I should not be so sure of myself on this. Here is the direct quote from the interview "They have found Earth. This is the Earth that the 13th Colony discovered, they christened it Earth. They found Earth." Is there Crawfish room in that statement?
Is Ellen a Head Dodge and not the really the 5th Cylon!!
I love that Ellen was a the 5th. It does make sense. As the interview states this appears to be no slight misdirection. I was becoming a big fan of the 6 model Cylons being a younger Ellen but it appears that is going to have to be modified. Also the fact that it appears for two years the actress that played Ellen for 2 years knew she was coming back (as seen in this LA Times Interview released just last night seems to indicate yeah she is actually number 5.
The interview sheds some light also that some Cylons knew more about what is going on and that this will play a role. Look out for the Cavil Cylon angle to show some light.
The Dualla Suicide- Powerful stuff. I was never invested much in her character besides that she was good looking. When she broke up with Lee I sort of resented her. Still I hated to see her go.
Timeline-
The hints to the ultimate Timeline in BSG has been sort of illuminated when Baltar said the Earth had been nuked 2000 years ago. From the interview:
The part of the timeline I’m having trouble with is this: We know that the Colonies had a cataclysm 2,000 years ago, then we find out Earth had a cataclysm 2,000 years ago. Am I getting something wrong in how I’m looking at the history?
No, you are getting it correctly. I can say that later, as we get through subsequent episodes, there will be more explanations, and actually all this timeline stuff does lock into place. You have to read the subsequent chapters, but it will actually make sense.
This lead to a lot of interesting possibilities. What and who exactly caused the nuking of Earth. Was it some Civil war with the Human hybrid like Cylons and their own machine Cylons? Was it Humans coming to Earth to finish off the 13th (we know that there was dispute according to BSG religion and myth that has been introduced to make the 13th go find Earth. Or is there something else out there.
One would think that the leadership in the Fleet would be interested in these questions. Hey we have these 4 Cylons how did they get here. What exactly destroyed the 13th Colony and a thousand other things. What does this have to do with that Beacon way back that upon discovery killed all the Cylons that came in contact with it. No it appears the Colonists are not big on history (which seem to describe how things even 2000 years before in this sort of High Tech society is so shrouded in mystery). No going down to research or look for some records in vaults or places that might have survived. It is lets jump the FRACK out of here.
The Timeline leads us to
Kara(Starbuck) what the heck is she!!!
I thought the most compelling part of the film was when Cylon Leoben (Mr search for the truth) freaks out that he doesn't understand at all what is going on as to Starbuck. His world has been turned upside down too. This is well where the timeline and the whole Kara is the Harbinger of Death things gets complicated.
When did the Kara body get there that Kara discovers of herself. Also I would love to watch this episode again. I swear there might have been a clue dropped. When she finds the Viper and is yelling at Leobon to help her turn it over I think she goes "God Dam*it" and not Gods Dam*it. Now unless Kara has now become some be live in the monotheistic God of the Cylons this is strange. Perhaps though I mis heard it.
Theory 1- 2000 years ago and perhaps her arrival sets off some automatic response that starts this chain of events. The problem with this is the condition of the Corpse that does not look like it had been there for 2000 years ago and the fact that the Viper was the thing sending the signal. Would this Viper so close to ground zero be doing this 2000 years later
Theory 2- Which I believe is that is her Viper and Body after she went into the Maelstrom and basically been there for a short period of time
What is she. As the Interview states she could be anything. Is she a Cylon? Maybe. It would make sense that perhaps since we have 13 Colonies that she could be the new improved Cylon or something that is a new development all together.
How did she survive? - AND MORE IMPORTANTLY WHERE DID THAT NEW VIPER COME FROM. I guess we shall have some clues if the final four's memories start to come back. How they got to the Colonies 2000 years later is going to take some explaining to do. However as we see in the last scene when Ellen announces everything is in "place" to be reborn that something made the final Five ( and I think perhaps more than the just the 5) go to some new Resurrection type hub. I have a feeling that when she crashed on Earth this thing was still on perhaps. That does not answer the question though IF she is some Cylon type thing how she was resurrected and where did this Viper come from
For what it is worth I think that Humans attacked Earth some 2000 years ago. Look at the interview and there is a clue dropped in the discussion what had to be eliminated out of the earth battle scenes because of money concerns. The 12 or most of the 12 resurrected and then there was a vast disagreement over what to do next. The 5 perhaps wanted to work with the humans while the others perhaps were more out for blood. Again I think Cavil knows a lot more than any of the Cylons.
Should be a great ending

Interesting post. I also think that we will find out that the humans nuked the Cylon Earth. I hope this was not the actual Earth, but rather a Cylon version of Earth. I don't know how they would explain it otherwise.
