Belgium Nuns Takes In Accomplice To Horrific Pedophile and Killer - Controversy and European Press

George Conger writes on  an controversial case that is has it foundation some horrific things your would expect just too see on the TV Show Criminal Minds.  See Forgiving monsters: The Dutroux Case

As he points out this is one of the most notorious criminal cases in Modern European history and with good reason.

What I find interesting , and it is a point he has touched on recently as to UK papers,  is how the diversity of  European press advocacy seems to work.

Ideology plays its part in the coverage of this story. Self-identified Catholic newspapers have stressed the theme of penitence and redemption. Some secular newspapers have objected to the intrusion of Catholic sensibilities into the parole of a “monster”, but others have advanced ethical theories of crime and punishment. No one newspaper encompasses all of these views, but collectively the debate over the parole of Michelle Martin is an example of the best of the European press.

It would be nice to have that as to the press in the USA and perhaps it would work. It seems as to the Newsprint crowd here that does not happen partly because there is no opposing paper of close relevance  . Thus no  intelligent engagement that the reader can grapple with can happen.

I have no problem with a pedophile monster being forgiven, and no problem with people teaching religious repentence and redemption. But if the Catholics want to minister to pedophiles, they can go to the prisons to minister to them, not make them out to be "priests" and cover up their crimes, when their crimes begin in come to light in one place, move them to another place to have access to whole new community of children to rape. All that would have ever been necessary is for every person who knows about a child being sexually abused to simply pick up the phone and report to the proper authorities. But the Catholic church, from the housekeepers to the popes have steadfastly covered up these crimes for at least the past century. For a family to take their children to a Catholic church is like thowing them to the wolves. And this is the caliber of people who are trying to take control over the rest of us in the political arena.

I certaintly think mistakes have been made in the past. Horrid ones. But I think the Church right now is actually one of the safest place for kids to be at this point after the reforms and the reforms continue.

The Catholic Church is something that in many ways represents how this was viewed and handled in many more facets of Society than the Church

I was just reading an article about the 280 (so-far) Blackfeet Indians in Montana who have acknowledged that they were sexually abused/molested/raped as children in Catholic schools and orphanages. The Catholic heirarchy in Helena have been enabling this and covering it up since the 1940s. The Catholic church is a highly organized pedophile mafia. I want to know if my own grandfather was raped by the Catholics when his father had put him in a Catholic boarding school from circa 1898 until he escaped from them circa 1906. After my great grandmother died when he was eight years old, his father felt that he could not maintain a home for him, and put him there for some reason even though their religion was Methodist. No man of his generation ever acknowleged being molested or raped. And I don't think the term "child abuse" was even in the lexicon back then. All my grandfather ever said was that they were very mean to the children, and he made up his mind that he would tolerate it until he was 16, and then he would run away, because he had known people who made it on their own at the age of 16. He had to climb over a wall as though it were a prison, and he went to the docks at Mobile, and went to work as a merchant marine. For the rest of his life he was proud that he had the gumption to escape from the Catholics. After my grandparents were married and settled in Texas, he was reconciled with my great grandfather who was repentant for the rest of his life that he had put his son in a Catholic boarding school. After all that has come to light in this era, I want to know if sexual abuse was the problem, but everybody is dead now, and it will never be known. It did not have to happen to those 280 Indian children, and it should never happen to another child, but the government just does not have the gumption to declare the Catholic church to be a corupt pedophile organization and shut them down under RICO.
