Divine Mercy Sunday and Killing of Osama Bin Laden

I am pretty pumped that this evil man was killed. I am glad it occurred in a gun fight too. What we are seeing across America is a much need release and should be marked.

That being said I largely agree with this post at American Catholic. See
The Catholic Response to the Death of a Murderer

It seems fitting that the killing occurred on the date of John Paul the II beatification. John Paul the II was a mystic who saw the hand of God in many everyday events in the battle between good and evil. So Catholics know doubt are drawn to see what possible connections there are and of course to the huge Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday.

I largely suspect that Bin Laden is not in Heaven or purgatory right now. However Michael is correct we need to pray for our enemies and indeed hope that in his final moments some how Divine Mercy was shown to him and he accepted. I rather doubt this happen but it is a Christian hope. To hope your enemy is in hell just trivializes the place in a dangerous way.

On the flip side the other side of Divine Mercy is justice and a warning. That is the background of these events too and perhaps another thing to ponder.

On a side note one of the more interesting things that Catholics will debate will be that "surrender " was not an option. This is a KILL mission we are learning and not a capture mission. I have no moral problem with that. The civil ultimate jury of the world decided his fate long ago. The American military carried out the just sentence. Further it just would have caused too much death and injury worldwide as we we put him on trial.

All in all a good day.

You are not the only one who is thinking about this. I knew, while watching the ceremony, that something huge and very good was going to happen.

It is something to think about :) I will say after Royal wedding. Beatification, and now this I hope nothing exciting happens in wee hours of the might again. I am getting exhausted
