Adding A Louisiana Catholic Missionary Blog!!!

Well this is nice. Occasionally I look to see if there are any new Louisiana Catholic Bloggers. Well today I came across Anthony and Holly in Missions . Now it appears they are not from Louisiana but they are based out of Catholic Louisiana outfit I have never heard of till today. That is the Family Missions Company out of Abbeville Louisiana. So we shall adopt them as Louisiana Catholics for our Louisiana Catholic Blogger update. A great organization and I wonder why I have never heard of this before.

Any way if you go to the this page of the Mission Company blog we can see quite a few Louisiana Catholics involved.

They include the Eric Baquet from Ville Platte, , Luke Prejean from Lafayette, Dennis and Florence Crain from Abbeville, Ashley Elizabeth Hebert from Ville Platte, Colby Dupre' from Vinton, and Harvey Family from Lafayette.

Hopefully they might be able to blog in the future too.

Getting back to the blogger I mentioned. This is interesting and indeed troubling. They are currently in Grenada. From todays entry:
Another project that we are working on is called "Know your Faith", and it is in response to the lack of religion being taught in the Catholic schools. A while ago the Catholic schools here were really struggling to make ends meet, and instead of closing down a few schools, the government offered to take over paying the salaries of the teachers and a few other things. The church only pays for maintenance of the buildings, which is a struggle right now because of the hurricane damages. So the government also hires and fires the teachers, and they have been trying to oust Catholic teachers from the Catholic schools. The schools are free, but the kids are not taught Catholicism, and often challenged on their faith. The program that we are trying to put together would have workshops offered for one willing teacher from each school, and also invite Catechists from the local Catholic churches. Anthony and I would answer basic questions about the Faith, teach major points from the Catechism and Bible, and offer support and encouragement. The hope is that then they would take this back to their students, with a new appreciation for teaching the Faith, and a deeper understanding of what it is that Catholics believe. We also want to give each teacher a teaching packet, Bible and Catechism of their own, but we are unsure of where the money will come from.
