On Cardinal Newman's Birthday- Do We Need To Petition the City of Birmingham to get Busy Building A Fence?

Catholic Mom of Ten reminds us of that today is Cardinal Newman's birthday. He of course is the under consideration for official Sainthood. No English person since the 16th Century(that is a long time) has been named a Saint.

Now official Saint or not he is still a very important person for not only English Catholic but Catholics around the World. Her post reminded me that I intended to post two incredible posts she made a few days ago. It appears that Vandals are causing problems where Cardinal Newman is buried. The Church wants to build a fence to protect his grave. However the City Council is holding it up!!! I seem to recall that this has been a issue for some time. Whats the hold up?

Go see her post Row over 'Saint Grave' security and BBC News clip about the fence at Rednal...

I suppose it never occured to me that he would be buried at in the open like that. I guess I always imagine he was buried inside a crypt in some massive beautiful English Catholic Church.

Still didn't like the Former PM Tony Blair just convert to the faith. Didn't he when he we went to the Vatican for the last time as PM take a huge portrait of Newman to the Pope? Perhaps the Vatican can call him and see if he has some stroke on this matter. Unreal.

On another note here is a whole slew of links and resources on Cardinal Newman at David Armstrong's Venerable John Henry Cardinal Newman: The "Father" of the Second Vatican Council (Links Page)
