Was Pope John Paul the I Murdered?

Thankfully we are not hearing much about this silly conspiracy theory as we used too. Inside Catholic looks at the theory or should I say theories of who did it at A Quiet Death in Rome: Was Pope John Paul I Murdered?

What makes these wild conspiracies a tad different is that anti Catholics and the extreme traditionalist elements of the Church promote these monkeyshines.

The general public saw the most popular theory portrayed in the movie Godfather III of all places. It was not exact but had the key points of the alleged people behind the death of the Pope that is contained in one of the most popular theories.

It was sort of the Oliver Stone version of the horrible movie JFK but Catholic style. In JFK that combined about ten theories together there was a scene that basically portrayed LBJ as behind killy President Kennedy. . In other words slander.

In the Godfather III we had something similar. That is the real life Archbishop Paul Marcinkus, president of the Vatican Bank, was portrayed by a fictional character of being involved in killing John Paul the I.

Anyway it is a good article that goes into the arguments that are put forth.

There can never be a Catholic Conspiracy that does not include the Masons of course. I have to admit after my conversion to Catholicism I was always amazed at how some Catholics are obsessed about Masons. The famous Italian P2 Lodge is often a part of these plots . The article examones them which is interesting. There also is a interesting summary of the Vatican Bank troubles at the time.
