The Real Reason The DHS Report on Far Right Extreme Groups is Dangerous

Wow this has been the talk of the net today. I would urge for a little conservative calm , rational thought, and plenty of links go to the Anchoress post DHS documents picking a fight? UPDATED

Jonah Goldberg perhaps frames my objects and indeed fears well here. and here.

My main complaint is that it gins up paranoia which these extremist and possibly violent “right wing” groups use. I have no doubt some are dangerous and my main complaint in recent years is that conservatives and legit people of the right wing have not been wary enough of some people that come in under cover of political activity and causes of the right.

For instance when he had the various citizens groups on the borders not everyone was just average patriotic joe wanting to protect the border. That is just one example.

However this report is trash.

Please compare what the DHS released today and what the Govt issued on violent far Left room groups in 2001 (Please recall there was DHS in this pre 9/11 era)

One cannot help but note the remarkable difference. There is history ,there is names , there is research, there is reference to actual plots, there is talk about civil liberties . In other words the Govt did not make everyone to the left of Center some potential terrorist.

The current DHS report names no groups and even states there it hasno evidence of any plans.
In effect it will do just the opposite of what it hopes to prevent. That is it will increase paranoia on the left and right. Some groups and must be remembered while being on the political “left” or Political “Right” often have similar fears in some regards.

The "right" is very nervous right now. Labels and word means things. Many of us conservatives are called the far right and haters and things of that nature. Just talking about being opposed to gay marriage has opened me up to charges of being a bigot and a spewer of religious hate. Many of us are also coming off an election where if we opposed Obama we were assumed racist.

When we see Damon Linker over at a respectable magazine like the New Republic spinning conspiracy theories of THEOCON plots we get nervous. This nervousness is amplified by the fact that those on the right feel pretty powerless because right now much legislation can not even be slowed down.

All in all a very bad report that I suspect will have the opposite effect of what the Government is trying to do.
