European Stimulus and Falling Birth Rates- Liberals Still Don't Get it

For that matter many conservatives don't want to deal with it either

A person that does seem to get it is the leader of Germany Angela Merkel.

Ross Douthat examines the bizarre logic of Yglesias at Who's Afraid of Low Birthrates? Yglesias counter argument is in part "And even amidst a real estate bust, the country is far too crowded for a middle class family to afford a spacious residence in the most desirable markets such as San Francisco or Manhattan."

So we don't have a crisis because a middle class family still cannot afford a Manhattan spacious apartment!!! That is setting the bar for crisis very high. Of course that has nothing to do with the problems in Europe.

In a related piece linked in the Douthat post he says "Alternatively, a developed country that did find itself in desperate need of additional workers can always let more immigrants in."

Immigrants from where exactly? In Europe they face a situation with immigration the USA does not exactly have. That is the immigrants are coming from largely Islamic Countries and the jury is still out if they are assimilating. In the USA it is true we have tensions as to immigration of people from Latin American. But those immigrants are from a Christian and Western Culture that makes their assimilation much more easy. In other words unlike Great Britain, the Netherlands, etc we are not seeing demands that facets of Islamic law be incorporated that are at odds with the current regimes.
