Time Magazine asks Is Liberal Catholicism Dead?

Goodness I hope so. It will never truly die. When one looks at the past 40 years what we see is a bunch of the same old heresies that the Church has been battling since Christ ascended.. The difference is we had to battle not just one but multiple ones at the same time on a amzing world wide level never seen before.. Time Magazine has the article here.

I have never blamed "Vatican II". We have seen that people that follow that road go into their errors. However Vatican II surely came at a bad time if ones looks from a purely human viewpoint of history. Perhaps that view is shortsighted. The events and movements that the Church had to engage that was putting the secular world on its head were numerous. The women's movement, Communism, new technology, a communication revolution, the Space Age, massive economic changes, movements against racism and injustice, the sexual revolution, etc etc. Who knows if a Church without Vatican II could have done better. I suspect it would have not.

History will tell us long after we are gone if the timing of Vatican II was good or not. Odds are the Holy Spirit knew what he was doing but it is hard to see from our vantage point. However Vatican II had little to do with the fact that perhaps Pre Vatican II Fortress Catholicism that we so idealize was a tad hollow.

I do think we have seen how both strong and how fragile the faith is to a large degree. The Faith is still here but when ones messes around with a few of the essentials things can to hell in hand basket in a real practical sense real quick.

Anway good article

Update Father Z interacts with the article here at Time: Benedict may have killed off American Catholic liberalism
