What a beautiful site. Our Louisiana guys are not only bringing Freedom against evil in Afghanistan they are are spreading the LSU message and tradition to a whole nation ready no doubt to be Tiger Fans. By the way if anyone has other Louisiana schools showing their colors overseas I shall post them. Even ULM!!!
A United Commander and LSU fan reported in this morning from Afghanistan on this Tigerdroppings thread. I must be nice to be the commander and be able to put the Purple and Gold besides Ole Glory :). Thankfully the local populace is not having to deal with some Bama Commander or we might see some Roll Tide nonsense flying. Or worse some Arkansas fan and local Muslims having to deal with a flying pig too look at!!!

No doubt General Sherman, LSU's first Superintendent of LSU as well as the original Fighting Tigers are smiling with approval. A little history here.
According to Arthur W. Bergeron, Jr., PhD. and the "Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units, 1861-1865" (LSU Press, 1989), the name Louisiana Tigers evolved from a volunteer company nicknamed the Tiger Rifles, which was organized in New Orleans. This company became a part of a battalion commanded by Major Chatham Roberdeau Wheat and was the only company of that battalion to wear the colorful Zouave uniform. In time, Wheat's entire battalion was called the Tigers. That nickname in time was applied to all of the Louisiana troops of Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. The tiger symbol came from the famous Washington Artillery of New Orleans. A militia unit that traces its history back to the 1830s, the Washington Artillery had a logo that featured a snarling tiger's head. These two units first gained fame at the Battle of First Manassas on July 21, 1861.

Major David French Boyd, first president of LSU after the war, had fought with the Louisiana troops in Virginia and knew the reputation of both the Tiger Rifles and Washington Artillery. Thus when LSU football teams entered the gridiron battlefields in their fourth year of intercollegiate competition, they tagged themselves as the 'Tigers'.
According to Commander Brian Hutchinson . They are FOB Vulcan in Ghazni. In ARSIC East. They are Very small, only 44 Americans. They are surrounded by a much larger ANA FOB. They are an Embedded Training Team trying to train the ANA so we can all the troops can come home. As to the bags everyone marks their bags in some way. They are an all volunteer team from Louisiana and several of are Tiger fans.
