The Louisiana Catholic Blogger Update For August 11th

Time for the daily update when we look at the Louisiana Catholic blogs. Note there are no doubt more of these Louisiana Catholics blogs out there. These are just the ones I have found so far. I also interact with what they are saying at times.

First the Lake Charles Latin Mass Society has a post up on their new Bishop's Statement on the recent CDF document and the Motu Proprio. This ran in the Lake Charles's newspaper on friday and he has details how to access it. I pray the Dioces of Shreveport that has such potential can get a Bishop like this when he is picked.

Catholic Tube has the Catholic Vid of the day and this deals with vocations to the priesthood.

From The Recamier has more facts you need to know as well as an excellent intro on St Lawerence whose feast we had yesterday. I did a post on that last night. I have yet to pick a Patron Saint for this blog but St Lawerence is in the running.

Dei Gratia has a pretty good post on another code of Canon Law. This deals with "Once a Priest and Always a Priest. I actually have some very unique insight into this that I bet few people share. I might talk about that later.

Fr. Kenneth Allen references a religious blog that talks about the married priest movement. I share his frustration. In fact as I am typing this , I think I will share a little what I was referencing in Dei Gratia comments above. I have little patience for this. I have already talked about my painful divorce on this blog. I wasn't for it but heck what can you do. What makes it more painful is that in many ways I think I failed her father. Her father was a lacized priest. He was not a active priest in Louisiana but from another state. There was no huge jucy scandal. I will not go into the details . I just know at the age of 65 he got lacized by the Church(In the end it involved Church politics) and had 2 wonderful daughters. I had the priviledge of knowing him for many years. He despite being married was always a priest. He said Mass(at home) everyday and had permission of the Bishop to say it for his family.

Like many old people his mind starting going. The police would call up and say he got lost in the casino parking garage for instance . You think taking the car keys away from him was painful. That was nothing compared to when he was getting to the point where he should not say Mass. It is something to look back and mark his decline after that. When he could not say the Mass I think a lot of the gusto for living left him.
He was a holy man. His devotion to the Blessed Mother was awesome. He never went on a crusade. He was never a dissident. He lived a faith as an orthodox Catholic. The fact I have held on to my faith is in no small part to him. Like I said it is a reason my divorce is even more painful. I am just thank God he was not here to see it. When he was dying in the hospice the Priests that showed up were a blessing. There was a bond there I will never understand. My Father in law was a Saint in my book and it is too bad these folks could not have followed his path.

On to more pleasant things

Thoughts & Ruminations from Fr. Ryan references here the Bishop of Lake Charles first Pastoral statement he issued earlier in the week. This is not to be confused with what was issued on friday. I agree it is beautiful.

For The Greater Glory blog has a post I talked about earlier but I am putting in the roundup. That is using one faiths for political ammunation and it has a Jindal connection.

The Brown Pelican Society has again an excellent slew of post. I had no idea that August is the month of the real presence. He has a lot of post on that theme.

Maudie in Mandeville has a political post on gays in the military. Even though we are both Republican and Conservative I disagree with her on this

I think it is a age thing usually. I know a lot of service guys and the younger ones tend not to have a problem with it. It might be controversal but I don't either. I know two guys that are gay and are in the military. They are not "out" and they have served their country well. I don't think I am endorsing this lifestyle by taking this stand. IF we have lost 50 Arab Linquists because of this I think that is a PROBLEM. Also I think this feeds into the idea that the radical gay movement has that ones sexual preference is the CORE and in FACT THE ALL of a persons ID. The church opposes that. In the end it is up to the military to decide if and when this policy should change. But if they do think it should I will not oppose it. Maybe I am wrong. Just how I feel adn I am open to having my mind changed either on religious or national security grounds if a case can be made.
