Jewish Catholic Relations and the Incredible Funeral of Cardinal Lustiger

This is the first of two pieces from Whispers in the Loggia I am going to interact with.

There seems to be a lot of controversy because some Jews are offended that we are going to pray for them to convert. I wonder if most Jews are really that offended. I think not. I never understood how one could be anti Jewish. It might be simplistic but since Jesus was a Jew as well as the "big 12" it just seemed impossible. I remember when President Bill Clinton was asked during a Presidential Press conference what he thought about Southern Baptists praying for Jews to convert during their Convention. My response would have been, I am President of the United States not President of the SBC it is improper for me to comment. But Bill, wanting to be loved, said he thought it was improper. Where were all the "seperation of Church and State folks then?

Anyway the funeral of this great man who was Jew, a convert, and whose mother died in the concentration camps is a real testament to what real Catholic Jewish relations should look like. Go to the Loggia's post here as he describes his incredible funeral. A few days ago we celebrated the lives of two Catholic Saints that were Jewish and died in the camps. It should be remembered that Cardinal Lustiger lost his mother the same year that St Edith Stein died in the camps
