This issue escaped me a couple of days ago. It was published on August 4. IT can be downloaded in PDF form here. It is a slow download but is worth it. It often has news of Events that are of Interest to Catholic statewide and in the neighboring state of Mississippi. By the way there is a back to School Edition too that I am not highlighting(unless it has High School Football I have to look) if your are interested.
Here are the Highlights-
On page 2 Archbishop Hughs has a nice column on the vocation of marriage.
Also on that same page is a hard hitting column by Fr William Maestri asking that we have a veto overide session. I had no idea that Cathloic schools were so affected. I wish I had known this before now.
Starting on page 3 there is quite extensive coverage the Black Catholic Congress meeting that was just held. It really has an extensive Louisiana focus.
Page 7 is a article on the Urgent need for mental health care of New Orleans kids.
I really encourage ALL LOUISIANA Catholics to read the story on page 9. This is important. It is a big article but the intro states:

“Voter Voice,” an e-mail system capable of quickly sending messageson issues of concern to any state legislator.......the Voter Voice network will receive alerts whenever there is a pressing

The software makes it easy to send e-mails to any legislator. A participant types in his or her zip
code and street address, and that information is used to send the email to the correct legislators, both in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and the governor. The alerts include e-mail messages that can be sent as is, but Loar suggests that individuals use the information as background and craft a more personal message.
Page 12 and 13 has a great article and timeline on the evolution of High School Catholic Football in the New Orleans. I mean they go back and tell all the big events.
Catholic Activities are picking up as we go into the fall. Go the Happenings around the Archdiocese section on page 10, 13,14,15,16, to see all of them.
