The Catholic Blog Highlight of the Day- Why Vatican II

I have been enjoying reading DarwinCatholic: Where Religion, Philosophy and Demographics Meet . He has a two part post I really want to point out. That is Why Vatican II and What Happened After? and Why Vatican II, Part 2 .

He interacts with a Frank Sheed Book from the early 70's that is really good. Here are my quick thoughts.
I converted in College around 1990. The chaos was worse then but the signs of it claming down were there.I think also the timing of the Council is so important. The Council and more important the implentation of it occured at a dramatic time. There was literally Revolution in the streets worldwide. The battle with Communist in Europe(Remember the Red Brigade in Germany and Italy) You had the Civil rights movement, The womens movement, the Sexual revolution, the drug culture, a rebellion against all authority, massive technological advances, the Peace movement, new areas of Captialism, a unprecedented flow of information(in places that were democractic) all happening when this occured.

Contrary to what some people might think I don't think Vatican II caused any of that :)

So this is the World that the council ended in and which it gave birth ot it fruits. I am sure this child was affected by it. Looking at the mighty battleship of American Catholicsim pre Council it appeared to have more rust or rot than we thought for it to collapse like it did.
