Louisiana Catholic Blogger Roundup for August 18th

Astonished, Yet at Home! need sour prayers as to his dad. The story of how is Dad is responding to this is inspiring

Catholic Tube has a video interview of Rev. Thomas Foley, who recently celebrated his 50th year as a priest

From The Recamier has an update today. As we watch Hurricane Dean in the Gulf she reminds people of a horrible hurricane that hit in 1969. That is Hurricane Camille . She also talks that that weird, tragic and controversial event that happened in Australia in 1980. Also she mentions a famous Nazi that died today a among many other things.

Footprints on the Fridge has a a fun post this morning. It is called Things that Should Not Happen While Your Husband is Out of Town (But Sometimes DO). I thought number 1 was really funny so I shall quote that one. That is "A hurricane should NOT threaten the small island where your husband is and then move to threaten the coast where you and your children are!"

I posted this entry yesterday from Dei Gratia but it worth posting again. He did a post on Thursday called Bishop Gerard Frey dies at the age of 93. It is a worth a an read. Let us remember to keep the Bishop's soul in our prayers as well as the people of Lafayette. Of historical interest is that under his tenure the part of the Diocese of Lafayette became the Diocese of Lake Charles . Wow, I can't imagine being Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette before it was split. That Diocese was huge

A Number of Things has a post up. Here she is talking about her Decorating Dilemmas. I am aways fascinated by some women can decorate and make a place look wonderful. I can spend twice the amount of time doing the same thing and it looks soooo hapzard.

For the Greater Glory has an interesting post called Being an Objective Journalist. He has started writing for the LSU newspaper that has readership of 14,000. He talks about the rules that also include Sports Journalist for the paper cannot even wear LSU gear stuff to the game. That is pretty incredible. Especially since the LSU paper is not known for its coverage of other schools sports. However that does make sense because they do need to interview the other coaches and perhaps get in their locker room. I suppose wearing LSU stuff would hinder that.

The Brown Pelican Society has some post up as usual. He has this one of note dealing with that abortion doctor case up in Kansas.

Cajun Cottage Under the Oaks has a couple of fun post up. First is this post called All Before 9:00 A.M. It is a little insight of home schooling kids and we see what it is like just before the official start of school. Here is another great post on how the first day went. I really envious of those kids. First I always wanted brothers and sisters. Second, I bet brothers and sisters become very very close if they are all home schooled. Ahh one of the nice things about the net. Get to see if things build up to all the hype you built it up to be in your mind. Let me spend some more time on this posts because I want to point out a link that I can't fit in anywhere else. I notice her son is studying WWII. That is great. I suspect his friends in High school are not doing that. If I ever have children chances are they will go to Catholic schools if possible. But you can bet I will "home school" them in history which seems to be a topic that is given short shrift. I love Louisiana history and found this great site. It is a resource for Louisiana History Teachers!!! They even have a Louisiana Fact of the day which I think I will start using at the start of my Louisiana blogger post.

Today's facts are "September18 1769 O'Reilly arrives in N.O. with 24 ships and 2,600 Spanish troops to take possession of Louisiana for Spain and in 1779 A hurricane struck New Orleans, scattering an entire Spanish fleet and destroyed or disabled all but one ship.

Cool

Returning to the blogs.

Father Ryan at Thoughts & Ruminations from Fr. Ryan has th links from yesterday that deal with a possible cancer cure found in a Catholic Clinic and a place where you can find Catholic Classics at a reasonable price

That is it for the blogs that have updated since yesterday. Check back tomorrow for another update.

James,

Not that it's any of my business, but how did you become a Converted Catholic Political LSU blogger? (and in North Louisiana, apparently; there aren't many Catholics or LSU fans up there.)

I need to do a "My conversion story" post. I actually had one of those grace filled moments when I was young. I went out of town with my neighbors to their friends in Vicksburg. That Saturday they said to me to go with them to Saturday Mass. THere was nothing "apecial" about that MAss. THe Chruch was not in particular breath taking. But it was the first Catholic Service I had been too. However at 16 for some reason I really felt that this was right and the Mass was right and I felt the strong pressence of God

THat stayed with me and I studied up as much as I good on Catholcism. When I went ot Louisiana Tech the first stop I made was at the Catholic Student Center. I enrolled in the RCIA program( a good than GOd) and bacame a Catholci that year. I was pretty involved with Catholic college activities on a local and State wide level for the next 4 years which was helpful
