One more Louisiana Catholic theme post for the day. I usually highlight the articles that are in the various Catholic Louisiana papers that are online. Sadly the Catholic Dioceses of Houma. Lafayette, and Lake Charles do not have their papers online yet. However the rest do.
Today we hit the Diocese of Shreveport. You can download their recent publication here in PDF form by going to this page and clicking the picture of the cover of the Catholic Connection that is in the right hand corner.
Let me highlight a real nice article on a great man that is on page 7. That man is Dr. Joe Holoubek. He passed away recently. He was a great doctor and wrote books on the Faith. I hadd the pleasure of meeting him several times. He is one of those I will keep in my prayers but I suspect is already with Christ in Heaven.
There is a nice article on page 8 how students at the Cathedral School are helping out their fellow Catholic in Boliva
There are several pages dealing with Catholic Schools in the Diocese so check that out.
On page 13, there is a nice write up how people out of the eastern part of the Diocese went down to the Ninth ward of NOLA to help rebuild
Page 14 has an article on how Catholics are divided by the immigration issue. Tell me about that. By the way the woman that handles that for the Diocese is very nice. It is horrible how SOME people that disagree with the Church's stand call her up and spew venom at her. Uh I can go on forever about that. Thankfully that is a small minority of people that do that even if they disagree .
On page 16 there is news about a great fundraiser the kids at St Josephs in Shreveport need. That fundraiser was called “Cookies for Cows” Pretty cool
Also on that page there is a lot of youth and young adult news. They have some events listed that are of statewide interest that I will post here:
September 14-15 • Campus University
Discernment @ LSU-Eunice
College Prep - Shreveport
at Grambling
Conference (NCYC) in Columbus, Ohio
Students (LCCS) Campus, Baton Rouge
Conference @ Diocese of Shreveport
Bossier City
On page 19 there is information about the The North Louisiana Catechetical Conference that will be held August 25
On page 20 there is a nice picture of the Eucharistic Procession that was held in Shreveport. I am going to try to attend next year and bring some friends. Hopefully the Catholic college students will get involved too.
There is much more. Like many things in the Diocese of Shreveport this publication has potential. I pray that our New Bishop whoever that will be will expand on this publication
