Pope Benedict is "an old man trying to get a little attention"

So says CNN commentator Roland S. Martin.

Heavens. This is of course in response to the latest Vatican document clarifying what "Church" is and what it is not in their view.

As I just discussed in the post below, the Southern Baptist have a much more postive take.

We learn that Mr Martin is a ex Catholic which really comes out. It also appears that he has failed to read the document also.

He starts out:
Non-Catholics who are up in arms of the proclamation by Pope Benedict XVI that the only true church in the world is that of Catholicism shouldn't even bother getting upset. Just chalk it up to an old man trying to get a little attention.

First this was a document that was released by a Congregation not Benedict. True it had his approval but facts are important. As to "Just chalk it up to an old man trying to get a little attention" is this what is passing for serious journalism nowadays at CNN?

He then proceeds to give his ex-Catholic horror story. H blames the Church for his lack of knowledge of scripture , even though during this time period the Church was begging him through various means to delve into scripture. Yet apparently he was unaware of this.

Later he states
This is nothing but a naked attempt by Pope Benedict XVI to "own" Jesus by virtue of the Catholic Church considering the apostle Peter as its leader.

Good Grief

He ends the piece by saying:

It is these kinds of missives by Pope Benedict XVI that do nothing to support or build the community of faith. All it does is divide.

Protestant leaders: Don't buy into the foolishness. Let Pope Benedict XVI keep running off at the mouth and making pointless declarations. If you keep bringing good news to the poor, setting the captives free and assisting those who seek to know Jesus, then you'll make more headway in doing the work of Jesus than any 16-page document will.

Did he even read the document? I think not. The difference between this view and the previous post regarding the SBC is striking.

Catholic Blogger Jimmy Akin is outraged as you can see here.

Write Cnn and give then your view on this bad piece of journalism.
