Several Louisiana Dioceses have some fine Catholic newsapers. Thankfully several are online in PDF format. Those Diocese that have their publications online are. Shreveport, Alexandria, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge. Hopefully the very Catholic Dioceses of Lafayette, Houma Thibodeaux, and Lake Charles will get their papers online.
They are a good source of Catholic news and especially activities and events that are just a couple of hours away from you. Also there are some suprises. I find the Hight School Football Column that is often in the Diocese of Baton Rouge paper helpful. This year it was full of college signing day photos.
Diocese of Shreveport-
The Diocese of Shreveport is the smallest population wise of all the Dioceses of Louisiana. They do not have a "newspaper" but they do send out every couple of months a nice publication called The Catholic Connection. This includes a calender of events, articles, and news in the Diocese. It is a pdf file located at the Catholic Connection Home page. THere are a list of articles on the right. You can download the entire publication by clicking the image on the upper right hand corner. I expect the new edition shall be put on this site any day now.
Diocese of Alexandria-
The Diocese of Alexandria has a top notch newspaper. It is called the Church Today and can be located here. The latest edition has a lot of good write ups and columns.
The Diocese of Baton Rouge-
Th Diocese of Baton Rouge has also a quality newspaper called the THE CATHOLIC COMMENTATOR . It can be downloaded in PDF format here. Lots of good Columns and news of what is happening around the Diocese can be found here.
Archdiocese of New Orleans-
Last but not least, is the granddaddy of Louisiana Catholic Newspapers the Clarion Herald. The Clarion Herald can also be downloaded in pdf format here. Warning when it says the download can be slow they are not kidding. Just hit the link and go make a sandwich. It is worth the download. There is a wonderful story about Archbishop Hannan in the latest edition
To my knowledge the other diocesan papers are not online or able to be downloaded. Again this is too bad because I expect the ones missings are of enormous quality. I perhaps have missed them. When one goes for instance to the Diocese of Baton Rouge or Archdiocese of New Orleans web site one really has to look for them. If they are online let me know and I shall add them. If they are not and you are located in one of these three Diocese encourage them to put the publications online.
