I don't Get the Libertarian Argument of Getting Government Out of the Marriage Business

I hope to touch on this more because I don't Libertarians really thinking this through. It seems through history whether it a Legislature, a King, or some sort of Tribal council the "Government" in whatever its form has been up to it eyeballs in the marriage business. That is because the family were responsible for much of the services we now expect Government to do. It was also integral to rights , protections, and responsibilities of the married parties and the community toward them.

It seems the more the state gets out of the marriage business (want no fault divorces you got them none of our business) the more things the State has to do to pick up the slack of what the families were doing.

Therefore if Government has any core functions it is to protect the family and inst of marriage at all cost.

I am not a member of the Libertarian Party, or any other organization, but I have a libertarian point of view on this and many other issues.
Just look at the miserable failure that the government has made at being responsible for the institution of marriage! Anyone who believes in organized religion ought to realize that their own Church, Synagogue, or Mosque could do a better job at this than the government. Those of us who reject organized religion, in favor of a personal relationship with God, definately believe that we can trust God with every aspect of our lives rather than putting trust in the government.
It is of no consequence if the government expands marriage to include homosexual couples, because government marriage has become meaningless anyway.

Good points. I hope to use this comment when I try to flesh out my view more in another post
