Louisiana Tech Goes All Hail the WAC - BYU Related

Update- Ignore everything below.Tech Screwed Wac Screwed

If this goes through I will take back everything I sad about WAC commish Karl Benson.

As someone that is also a LA Tech fan and grad I am pretty pumped about this.

ESPN has a good article on this here.

Now this is what caught my eye in that article.
BYU would play four to six WAC programs in football every season, according to sources. The Cougars already play in-state rival and WAC member Utah State every season. ..

While BYU considers leaving the MAC, the WAC is apparently not in jeopardy of losing any members to the MWC. Fresno State and Nevada were approached by a MWC representative Tuesday about invitation to the league, according to a source. But that move came after the WAC's membership agreed to an expensive buyout following Boise State's departure for the MWC.

Once Boise State left, the remaining WAC members -- Fresno State, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada and Utah State -- signed a $5 million buyout agreement that would be assessed to any member that left the conference within the next five years. The schools took that move to keep other members from following the Broncos to the MWC
.

Now it is very likely that all the AD's of the WAC were aware of this BYU move. Thus the 5 million dollar buyout to leave the conference. It appears the WAC caught the MWC sleeping.

For Louisiana Tech that is not chump change. There have been rumbling Tech would like to go somewhere else. I think it is clear that Tech sees the benefit of BYU coming in. They have now committed themselves.

Now here is the question. Is this the last shoe to drop? Would BYU's entrance be enough to keep a Nevada or Fresno in the WAC if given an opportunity to go elsewhere? Maybe so. However could Karl Benson have some other surprises left .

On the whole though BYU will be Independent as to Football the plus side seems big here for the entire Conference.

Update- It has happened BYU Deal
