Catholics Can't Deliberately Kill the Innocent . PERIOD!!!

Oh the annual Atomic bomb week has not quite ended in Catholic blog land. Let's be clear though about something!! See Akin has No, You Can't Deliberately Kill Innocent People (Sorry!)

That is pretty mainstream Catholic thought. Hell it used to be mainstream Catholic and Protestant thought!!

Now one can be a good Catholic I suppose and think the Atomic bombings of Japan was moral under a few theories. However one theory that is out of bounds is it is ok to kill 60,000 non military folks in order to bring a end to the war. Sorry that is just the reality. A lot of conservative Catholics (which I am one) make a big deal how "liberal" Catholics must submit to the Christ's Church on abortion. Well here is one area that certain conservative Catholics must submit. Fish or cut bait!!

Answer me this. What if American troops had been able to land in Japan and cut off one of the cities we would have atomic bombed. In order to show the Empire of Japan our might and our resolve to win and thus to end the war quickly the President issued the following order:

All American Servicemen shall enter the city take all men, women, and children out of their homes and execute them.

How is that different? I can't see it. Instead of one actor that dropped the bomb from the Heavens we just replace him with perhaps 50,000 actors to carry out the order.

No one and I repeat no one when I pose this question wants to answer it!! Why? Because I think they cannot.

Now I am not saying Truman who is one of my favorite Presidents should have been hanged as a War Criminal. To be honest I don't think we had a clue about the power of that bomb and the horrors of radiation. I think if Truman had known he would have acted differently. I am very charitable in looking at the circumstances he was in and how culpable he was. Andrew Jackson is another story!!

Still a Catholic (Which means Universal) theology on this is not based on United States military interest in ending the war quickly and saving American lives. There are some things we are prohibited from doing in order to save even our own lives.
