So It Begins- Who Will Lose Their Congressman in Louisiana Redistricting

The Houma papers announces that the Louisiana Family Forum is the first out of the box with a redistricting plan. The loser the residents of the Houma area and current Democrat Congressman Melanchon.

Here is a part:

The remaining five districts remain basically unchanged and give continuity to Louisiana's historical districts, while maintaining a majority 'minority district'," Mills said.
Based on LFF's proposal, which is only an early recommendation from a nonprofit group at this point, the odd man out could be U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon D-Napoleonville.
Due to the battering St. Bernard Parish took during the 2005 hurricane season, and the impact of neighboring New Orleans, speculation has long surrounded his seat.
Under LFF's plan, Melancon would be living in a district that no longer includes the few Acadiana parishes he now represents and would be forced to campaign in a Baton Rouge-New Orleans market.
Critics contend the LFF proposal is a successful model only for conservative candidates, which could ensure that Republicans maintain control of Louisiana's congressional delegation
.

Who are these critics? Of course it makes the other districts more conservative and Republican friendly. That is what is going to happen in order to maintain a Black majority district post Katrina.

I predict this map will look a lot like the other maps people will produce and be the close to the final result.

Tip of the Hat to the Dead Pelican

Update- I like this District

(1) It saves the two North Louisiana Districts that as we learned for a brief period in the 90's is very unmanageable to combine

(2) I really want to look at the numbers and see how many people from North Baton Rouge are this district. Has their been a further Black power shift from the New Orleans area to Baton Rouge?

(3) Will not largely Conservative white Catholic Democrats and Republican be the king makers in this District. Thus making sure in this district if a Black Democrat is elected they would be likely pro-life and friendly on other concerns. Sort of where the black community is at. The white demographic shifts from liberal white New Orleans to conservative Houma!!

In fact is that maybe why the Louisiana Family Council likes it?

Update See my post Could Pro-Life State Senator Senator Sharon Weston Broome Be New Congresswoman In the New Louisiana Black Majority District?
