Pope Benedict Explains What a Bishops Conference Should Be All About

National Catholic Register has a write up here at What a Bishops' Conference Should Be-Pope Benedict tackles one of the thorniest issues to be raised since Vatican II.

I like this part:
Pope Benedict also told the bishops, “It is necessary to remember that advisers and the structures of the (bishops’) conference exist to serve the bishops, not to replace them.”

Is that not the truth. Part of the problem with the United States Conference of Bishops is in the past they seem to have just showed up and rubber stamped what the "experts" on staff say in many cases.

One thing I would like to see the Conference do is not only promote the Faith but be used to see what is going very right in a Diocese and examine if we all should be doing that. For example Vocations in the Diocese of Austin.
