Health Care Politics Shows Why There Will Be No Immigration Reform.

Any casual reader of this blog knows I am one of those conservative Republicans that support immigration reform. That is why I read with interest this entry from the Louisiana Hayride The Other Shoe About to Drop — Why Joe Wilson Might Defeat Obamacare

A interesting piece but I think it gets it all wrong. I talked about this briefly at Have Immigration Reform Groups Realized They Got Snookered?

What are the facts.

We know the current President in a cynical political move while Senator torpedoed immigration reform for his own benefit and that of his party.

We know that his current Chief of Staff is very cool on the idea. See Why Do Anti Immigration Reform Conservatives Want Rahm Emanuel Gone?

We know that Nancy Pelosi and Democrat Leadership have quietly told members they will not have to face a vote on this. See Is Obama A True Believer in Immigration Reform?

We have seen nothing the past year to indicate Obama really cares about this issue. See Mark Krikorian is Right On Obama and Immigration Reform

We know that the reaction by immigration reform supporters is not exactly a happy one after this week of meetings.

We also know , in a very under reported story, that our Ambassador to Mexico just last week told Mexican Senators not to expect immigration reform legislation.

So all indications are that Obama will not move on immigration reform while he has vast majorities. We also know that it is very likely that he will no longer have vast majorities in 2011 and thus he can conveniently blame the mean GOP for failure to pass immigration reform. A win for Obama that seems on the whole very cool to the idea.

Now it is true we see SOME immigration groups that are headed by die in the wool democrats already giving Obama cover. They will also use this issue to gin up money. They know that to have a future in the party they have to just spread the party line.

On the flip side we have some anti immigration reform conservatives that swear Obama is going to do this and using this to no doubt raise some money . For an example of that see Figures. Obama’s Socialist Advisers Are Behind His Push For Immigration Reform.

Of course the elephant in the room that no one tells the rubes on the left or right no matter what their position is that this is all smoke and mirrors.

Just continue to send us the 25 bucks to "x" organization which of course I will not tell you that I draw a salary off of and most of your contributions go to me sending out more direct mail on how important we are and how you need to send money.

So each side will send off massive emails asking you to send them 25 bucks for FAXES to Congress to save the Republic by supporting Obama who will pass it if you are pro or save save the Republic to defeat Obama 's plan for "amnesty" if you are against.

ALL OF THIS IS A MIRAGE!!

The poor people that fall for this are folks like the naive Catholic souls at VOX NOVA and America magazine on the pro-immigration reform side and on the other side the poor idiots that sent off their savings to build a border fence which proceeds went into some Alan Keyes scam operation.
