The LSU Panic After the North Carolina Game Is Sort Of Silly

FIRE LES MILES!!! and other stuff I am hearing on the message boards this morning. This after North Carolina came within a hair of making a dramatic comeback and winning the game in the last second.

I always hate these first games because a lot of it is working out the kinks. As we saw the SEC and with other teams there was a ton of that. Even the score Louisiana Tech versus Grambling is misleading from last night. Tech had to outlast Grambling State for goodness sake.

At the end of the day just be thankful we were not Ole Miss which lost. These things happen.

If there was an overall major Coaching mistake last night it was the choice to start putting backups in the game too early so they could get experience. I would have been a lot more comfortable with that choice if we had added a further touchdown. The massive substitutions on defense (26 men played) may have gotten the best of us.

That being said the game would have had a whole different total look at if not for a few crucial mistakes that Ridley(Only starting in his third game) and T Bob made and it looks like a blow out.

I largely agree with And the Valley Shook-

And I know I'm supposed to freak out per the guidelines in my LSU Blogger Handbook, but I'm encouraged by the first three quarters of the game instead of feeling dour over the last quarter. Jefferson was effective and spread the ball around, our offensive line only allowed one sack, and UNC couldn't run the ball at all. Until TJ Yates became the second coming of Johnny Unitas in the fourth, the passing game was kept largely under control.

There are things to work on. If Ridley is not carrying a football around campus next week, something is seriosuly wrong. The offense, once again, needing just one first down to put the game away in the fourth, couldn't get it. Turning a 3rd and 5 on the 19 to 4th and 39 at the 47 takes a special kind of poor play. But most importantly, the team had a 20 point lead to blow in the first place, and LSU won the game.

At the very least this game has got the teams attention and VANDY should be one they will be well prepared for. I think we shall see what stuff the Tigers are made of when we play perhaps one of the most improved Miss State teams in years in just two weeks.

Till then I think throwing ourselves off the cliff is very counterproductive.

Also read this great post that I think puts the good , the bad, and the ugly in it's proper place.

I'd be more than a little concerned if I were an LSU fan.
