New Orleans Black Newspapers Reluctantly Endorse White Guys In Election

For Mitch Landieu the endorsement by the Louisiana Weekly is big.

Robert George got the nod from the other black paper but they were not happy about it

In endorsing Georges, the Tribune bluntly acknowledged its reluctance to support a white candidate: "The thought of even a possibility of losing the city's top elected office after only 32 years is painful."The paper praised Georges for his sense of fairness, but made its ambivalence about backing him clear by stating, "We think John Georges is the best candidate to 'hold' the mayor's office while we in the African American community regroup."

Well I guess that is progress. I guess that means they will not likely endorse CAO in the future.

Hopefully in the future the important black press in New Orleans can endorse the person they feel best is qualified regardless of ethnic background and not feel they have to apologize for it.

Well baby steps you know.

I am just curious. How is this judging a man by the content of his character and not by the color of his skin?

I agree. I mean a paper like the Louisiana weekly should see it as no brainer to endorse Landrieu this time and give him serious consideration in other times. because of the work he has done for the city and the balck community for all his poltical life
