The United States Gets Another Catholic Saint- Damien de Veuster

Also the only Saint that has a statue in the Congressional Statutory Hall!!!

Whispers has two good posts on this. He also reminds us there were four other Saints also proclaimed that are very important.

See "We Are Filled With Joy": For Hawaii's Saint, Rome Gets Aloha and The Honors of the Altar all which have nioce links and pics .

James,

If LSU has any hope of beating 'Bama, then we'll need to see some better play calling in the Auburn game in a couple of weeks.

Otherwise...fugeddaboutit.

St. Damien is truly a remarkable story.

But, you should check out the crazy number of saints from Belgium. (Wikipedia has just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.)

Belgium is a VERY small country, but it's got numerous saints AND two approved Marian apparitions.

What's up with that?

DISCLAIMER - My wife is from Belgium, so I'm somewhat biased toward it.
