I was getting in a better mood after last nights loss but Whisper's post on the election night had made me glum. As we see it was not just issues dealing with the future White House Occupant. Warning if depressed don't click this link Scenes from a Repudiation .
The marriage amendments were the only ray of hope.
The problem is that many Catholics it appears and many other on issues of Abortion, Euthanasia, and stem cell research decided to give Church teaching and the wisdoms of the Bishops the bird as we shall see.
For all those Catholic Conservatives that are pro-life I think this shows we have quite a problem That can not be laid at the feet of the RINOS or Mccain, or if only McCain and Palin did this!!! or whoever you wish to bash.
But there is another problem and I wonder if Catholic Social Justice Catholics that supported Obama realize this. When Catholics don't seem to give a big damn about abortion. parental notification, stem cell research , and Euthansia then you trot out the latest view of the Bishops on a economic issue or say BUT THE COMPENDIUM OF SOCIAL JUSTICE says no one is likely to give a big a big darn!!!
I am afraid of the long term consequences of this election season.
However I will take Pro Ecclesia's viewpoint here in his must read post as a PRO life Catholic. Please read Our Pro-Life Athelney

I think McCain deserves a fair amount of blame. He didn't emphasize the social issues, and that hurt his ability to coordinate a get-out-the vote campaign that Bush used for victory in 2004 with enthusiastic evangelicals. Only Palin made anyone enthusiastic, and that was because she was with us, and then she made a fool of herself and hurt the whole thing
Additionally, he lost the Hispanic vote, which is his fault. he was nominated in large part b/c people felt he could prevent Hispanic hemorrhaging. He did not, and that's his fault for trying to cater to the base instead of sticking to the truth.
I know McCain had a lot of obstacles, but he didn't run a very good campaign.
Michael the Pro-life ISSUE was out there. And honesty in many DIocese's the Bishops had Homilies read that basically were warning people of the danger.
I mean Catholcis and other Evangelcials knew what was up. I am not sure how a 30 second ad or him mentioning it would have done much more
McCain hit on the immigration issue. True he did not mention it at the GOP convention because he did not want half the hall to be seen booing it
But an aggressive camapign ocured in Spanish media. Plain went on Univsion. Pro Life Hispanic noteables were trying to set the record straight on McCain and immigration
It did not matter. Just like it did not matter to tons of mainly white Catholic Social Justice aAdvocates that he did it either
