How Did Louisiana Catholic Schools Do in Football Playoffs - Week 1

A little local flavor for those interested

Well the first round of High School Playoff were played last night. There are a couple of south Louisiana schools doing their games this morning.

You can see the results in this nice bracket as well as who will be playing who next week in all Classifications. Go here and scroll down to 2008-2009 Boy's Football Playoff Brackets!!

A little overview of last night

First on a personal note both schools (Both Public- We Are not A Catholic Meccas up here) in my Parish advanced. Homer beat Livonia. See Homer shuts out Livonia - . Sadly I will not be able to attend the next game as I will not be able to make the Killer Drive down to Hammond as they play the evil Catholics of St Thomas Aquinas. I do not know much about that district that St Thomas is in. Up the road traditional power House Haynesville won! that is trying to return to their former glory. They beat the evil Catholics of St Mary. Sorry Father Ryan. See Haynesville runs past St. Mary's. Now the bad news we now have a rematch well Haynesville lost last year against the very tough Kentwood team. Thankfully is up here.

How did the Catholic Schools do?

UPDATE- Archbishop Shaw and Archbishop Rummel won their saturday games so that means 13 Catholic Schools advance

.Across all the Classifications 128 Schools entered the playoff last night .There were a total of 22 Catholic Schools from what I can tell in the play offs last night. 20 Played last night and 2 play today.

Last night 11 Louisiana Catholic Schools won to advance while 9 saw their season end We await the scores of two Traditional Catholic Football powers today.

Two of the Three major Catholic Schools in North Louisiana advance!!!

2 -A Loyola of Shreveport beat Sterlington in a rather bizaree game. See Strong start propels Loyola - Loyola is the same district as My team Homer. We are both sadly in the same District as State Powers Calvery Baptist and Evangel where we have the honor of the yearly beatdown. Though We nearly beat Evangel last year. . Loyola will play Donaldsonville next week at Home (Yikes)

1 -A St Fredericks of Monroe beat Hamiltion Christian of Lake Charles and advances to host Christian Life next week. See Buttitta helps St. Frederick grab road win (This was quite a upset). Hopefully St Freds domination of the Protestants will continue :)

As I mention 1 -A St Mary's of Natchitoches Got Beat by Haynesville

Going to the Lafayette Area
5- A St Thomas More of Lafayette beat Northshore last night over in Slidell. See Cougars roll past Panthers . This sets one of the more interesting games next week as State Power West Monroe heads down to Lafayette next week. West Monroe finds itself in the strange situation of being eliminated in the second rounds of the playoff two years in a row. They want to break that jinx this year and I expect they will travell well down there.

Staying in the Lafayette Area the The 3 -A Notre Dame Pioneers of Crowley beat Sarah Reed last night. See No. 1 Pioneers make second round This sets up a game against Chruch Point next week.

The 3- A Teurling Catholics of Lafayette lost to Belle Chase in a heartbreaker 49 to 42. Blee Chase by the way will be going up to play Haughton not too far from me. I predict Haughton's playoff season will come to a crashing halt.

The poor Catholics of 1- A St Edmunds of Eunice got beat by Ceder Creek of Ruston. The score was 21 to 6.

In further distressing news 2 -A Sacred Heart of Ville Platte got beat by Rosepine!! 36 to 7

Going down to the New Orleans area

As I mentioned above the 2 -A St Thomas Aquinas Falcons of Hammond won. It was St. Thomas Aquinas 47, Welsh 28. They will play my might Homer pels.

In a game where 5- AB rother Martin got a huge scare early they came back in some incredible Fashion last night against Ponchatoula. I was monitering this game on the boards last night. I think Brother Martin is very much for real. See Crusaders surge by Greenies They Beat the Ponchatoula folks 43 to 28 but again see the article to see how the score is misleading. They play Central Baton Rouge next week.

5 -A St Paul's of Covington had a convincing win over John Ehret. The score was St Paul 34 John Ehret 10. See St. Paul's stifles Patriots. St Paul goes next week down to Thibodaux.

Sorry For the Greater Glory but your 5- A Jesuit's Bluejays laid a egg and got beat by Destrehan last night 29 to 7 .See Wildcats top Blue Jays . This sets up an interesting game too between two public schools as Ruston (that had to beat back a surging Denham Springs Team last night) will go down to Destrehan next week which is one of the best teams in the State

Sadly the evil Anglicans- Episcopal of Baton Rouge beat 2 -A Pope John Paul II of Slidell 21 to 20. See Episcopal knocks out Pope John Paul II .

The 3-A St Charles Catholics Comets of Laplace beat Rayne 31 to 6. This sets up the only Catholic Versus Catholic game in the Regional Playoffs next week that I can see. They will play Redemptorist of Baton Rouge on Fridays

There are two games today that for some reason are being played on Saturday. As soon as I get t those results I will update this entry. They both involve major Catholic Schools in the New Orleans area. 5 A Archbishop Rummel is playing Terrebone. The winner of that game will play Acadican.

The other game today involves 4 A Archbishop Shaw who is playing Pearl River. The winner of that game will play a team in my neck of the woods Benton in Bossier Parish

Heading more into the Baton Rouge Area.

The 1- A Catholics of Point Coupee (like their Secular Brother near them in Livonia) got beat by Kentwood last night 35 to 20. As I mentioned earlier Kentwood will go up to play Haynesville

2 -A St John of Plaquemines beat St Helena High (not Catholic) 42 to 34. They will host a very interesting and dangerous Farmerville Team next week.

3-A Redemptorist of Baton Rouge narrowly escaped last night in a thrilling game against Kaplan. The Score was 23 to 18. See Redemptorist needs fourth-quarter rally. As I mentioned earlier this sets up the only Catholic V Catholic School showdown for the next round in the playoffs as they will play the St Charles Comets of Laplace.

4A St Micheal of Baton Rouge sadly drew Powerhouse Leesville to play in the first round. Leesville won 28 to 7 .

In the Lake Charles Area

The 3A Jesuit St Louis High School Football Folks of Lake Charles beat Iota 34 to 13. They go off to play Lutcher next week.

Down in the Bayou area

Sadly 3A E.D. White just got pummeled. They were beat by Lutcher 29 to 0. Perhaps St Louis who Luther now plays will regain Catholic Football Honor :)
