Governors Palin and Jindal Face A Similar Problem?

Why yes they do.

David Frum does not make the connection to Louisiana but since I live here I do.

Palin to the Senate?
Of course she'll run for the Senate if she possibly can.
She almost has to.
Palin hit 80% approval in Alaska on the strength of a tripling in the price of oil. She raised taxes on the oil companies and paid the cash to the population. And who doesn't like free money?
Now the price of oil has tumbled below $65 - and the government of Alaska faces some painful decisions ahead. Palin's tax policy, which extracted extra benefits for the population as the price of oil rose, implies extra cutbacks as the price declines. Better to get out while the getting is good. Whoever governs Alaska in 2008-2010 will be luck to have an approval rating in the 40s.
Some might suggest that leading a state through bad times is a truer test of leadership than spending windfalls in good times. But who is listening?

Now of course we in Louisiana sadly do not get a Check from the State Govt as to Oil Revenue. But the challages will be the same in many ways
.

One reason I liked Palin was that she governed a State that is much like Louisiana in some aspects. It is largely ignored (besides the French Quarter) , not understood, and no one cares much about us till for some reason we Serfs can't get the oil and gas to the people . WHY DO THOSE YAHOOS LIVE ON THE COAST THERE ARE HURRICANES etc etc- We are a working Coast much like Alaska

Anyway Louisiana's situation is different from Alaska but it many was faces similar challenges. However It should be noted that the future administrations Cheereleading of Ethanol will not create a dead zone off the Coast of Alaska though like here.

Still it might get belt tightening time even more in both places and the natives will not be happy.
