....can reason really renounce its claim that the Logos is at the ultimate origin of things, without abolishing itself” (quoted in Creation and Evolution, p. 20). Ratzinger
In Louisiana there have been two hot issues. A State legislation pay raise and the legislation that opens up the possibility that Teachers can incorporate and add some other theories than just straight evolution. Both issues exhausted me and especially the second. Most people on the net forums just yelled past each other. There was, also in my view , quite a bit of dishonesty from the opponents that tried to make this a issue of the literal 7 day creation theory. Of course Catholics were all over the net proclaiming what Catholic Church teaches on this. They of course misrepresent that out of ignorance 9 times out of 10.
Cosmos -Liturgy- Sex has a good review of book by Ignatius Press under the title, Creation and Evolution. This is a English translation of the book covering B16’s 2006 Schülerkreis (a yearly meeting he has with his former students) where this year the topic of evolution was covered. Go see her entry Creation and Evolution: B16’s Schülerkreis
Now it goes with out saying, at least I hope it is apparent, that this meeting carries no Official teaching weight. But it still has enormous value for Catholics and other Christians when they struggle with this issue.
