So I went to The Governor Bobby Jindal Town Hall Meeting Today (Answers Vice President Rumors- Sort of )

Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana comes to Opinionated Catholic's Town For a Town Hall Meeting!!!

The Governor came to my little town today!!! He had a town hall meeting. Big Crowd !! for a meeting that did not get a ton of publicity for some reason

From a political point it is interesting he is starting these meeting in North Louisiana which means he intends to protect his North Louisiana base for the future. The crowd was pretty adoring. I very much wish that silly LSU PROF that started the silliness that Jindal lost against Blanco because of Racist North Louisiana folks could have been present.

A overview

Bobby has not gotten taller!! I find most people that have see him for the first time seem shocked how short he is. No different today as one person said wow Bobby y Jindal is tiny!! He really is not tiny

As to the Jindal Vice President rumors (OH Bobby please please please don't leaves us the crowds pleads lol) Bobby said:
(1) He was not sure if rumors of McCain coming to New Orleans this Wednesday were true or not (Right)(Sarc)
(2) That he loves being our Governor and just can't imagine wanting to do anything else . He then really tries to move to something else

The whole legislative pay raise saga was not brought up nor was it brought up by the audience in what was a very long Q@A session

As to My Question I asked (Sadly local Television did not air my Penetrating Question)

My question related to Coastal Erosion and the Gulf's dead zone. I basically said all these developments was great but we have a crisis and if we lose the coast we lose the population and economy down there. I also mentioned he needed to put it Senator McCain's ear tomorrow that he needs to talks about this!!! Why I am hearing not a lot of news on this out of the session? What are we doing? What about those Const Amendments we passed on this issue? What is the Game Plan? How come no one outisde Louisiana cares and do they realize this is a National Security issue.

Jindal answered it in a extensive fashion in the Q@A and also I talked to him one on one on it for about 2 minutes.

He explained that this was a crisis and did about 4 minute overview of the problem and what we are doing . Basically he said that if we have to pay back the Federal Govt 1.3 billion in 2010 for the levees in New Orleans under the current legislation we can forget Coastal Erosion projects and the coast will be gone in ten years. (THIS IS A INCREDIBLE OUTRAGE AND WHY IS THE MEDIA NOT ON THIS)

He mentions California gets 30 years to pay the back Feds for their levees for some reason and we get three!!! That this must be changed now or we are in heap of trouble (I shall be hitting this more this week).

Other issues besides of those of just local concerns-

The Severance tax Const amendment allowing parishes to keep more of their funds from oil and gas (VOTE YES)

The Sparta Aquifer problem

Cyber Command at Barksdale AFB

Broadband access Statewide

The Red River Water projects

His latest line item vetos

It was a fairly well educated audience that had concerns beyond locals ones. They saw concerns across the States as their concerns which is hopeful.

He talked a great deal about our troops in Iraq and spent some time talking about the guys we lost yesterday on the B-52 in the Pacific. He has ordered all flags at half staff state wise

He hit of course on the U.S. Supreme Court State Execution that turned over Louisiana law. This relates to the execution of people that rape children. It appears that he thinks he can appeal this case because of some technicality!! I have not researched this but I am curious to see what this is. It was in some paper this morning. Well of course that got all people excited ,except me really, and was a good point for him to end on

He talked about education, workforce developments and ethics. All in All a good town meeting and the folks in these rural parishes will recall him visiting and caring about us up here. Something many Governors , especially Former Gov Mike Foster , were horrible at doing. Jindal if he keeps doing this by just showing up will keep his North Louisiana Base in four years.
