Did Stupak Want to Avoid a Stalingrad Disaster

The inital reaction from the pro-life community regarding the Stupak / Obama executive order deal for health care reform falls into two reactions

(1) He is a sell out and never should have trusted him
(2) He is Naive or very stupid.

After watching Stupak I don't think he is a sell out. For the record I think this Executive Order does nothing!! If it did you would have the people that were opposing the Stupak language for the bill itslef scream bloody murder.

It will takes perhaps months if not longer to learn what really went down. How many votes did Pelosi have in reserve. That is votes she would allow to vote no on the health care bill for political reasons but if needed would come to her aid.

That is what we don't know but Stupak might have had a clue. So Stupak wanted to avoided Stalingrad. (If you don't like the Hitler example then use another classic bad retreat example in history).

At Stalingrad Hitler unwisely decided to have his troops slaughtered to defend the city even though there was no hope. Hitler even ordered that all troops retreating would be shot. It was all symbolic. A wise general knows that a good retreat is crucial for future victories or to at least buy time for the future to regroup

STUPAK may have had indications they would get nothing and the HCB would be passed anyway. SO he got what he could get.

Is this what happened? Well it might have. That is one reason why I am going to refrain from bashing Stupak till the dust settles and we get indications of what really went on.

Again I am not hopeful at all that this EO will protect the unborn. Still at this point I am willing to give Stupak some benefit of the doubt as to his motives before having him drawn and quartered.

I would suggest the pro-life movement hold back on the anger till we get some indications of what the true lay of the ground (or battlefield) was.

I'm no historian but don't you mean Stalin made the decisions? If I recall correctly, Hitler's main mistake was turning on his Soviet ally.

Well yes that was main mistake. However after he attacked the Russians and after the Soviet counter offensive Hitler kept his troops there when he should have abandoned the city

Thank you, I stand corrected.
