Chicago Sun Times Fires Only Religion Reporter and Columnist?

I find this so strange. Get Religion has Another Godbeat loss.

BUDGET CUTS THEY SAY!! Why is it that people that cover the Sport's beat and folks at the major sports reporting powers do so many religious themed sports story. Is it because they have learned that people are interested in it ,thus their readership goes up, and thus that helps the bottom line? HINT Sports media seems to be weathering the media budget crisis better than most. What do their beancounters know that the beancounters in the MSM don't know.

The fact that is happening in such a religiously diverse place as Chicago is curious too.

On the whole this is just bad for papers period. Even if one is not a person of faith religion has a impact on culture, politics, and a whole host of things. To be fully informed it seems having a reporter or columnist that understands the "GOD BEAT" is critical in helping form the total picture on a whole host of issues.
