Thoughts On Nancy Pelosi, No Drilling , and the Louisiana Dead Zone

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi Praying at the Tomb of St John the Baptist in Syria

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a very dangerous person in my view. A few weeks ago she thanked IRAN for helping to bring more peace to Iraq and of course last year she said she felt sorry that President Bush thought there was Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Sadly she is on a roll.

Investor’s Business Daily says The Pelosi should resign because she is incompetent (tip of the to the Anchoress for this article)

Last Tuesday, Pelosi sent a letter to President Bush urging him to release a “small portion” of the nation’s 706 million barrels of strategic-reserve oil to bring down prices. Regardless of how one feels about whether reserves should be held at all, two big problems stand out with Pelosi’s tiny demand.
One, she’s proposing a misappropriation of the reserves. The U.S. oil stockpile is a 58-day cushion for emergencies that today are all possible. If Israel attacks Iran, for example, and prices double again. Or if Hugo Chavez cuts off his supplies, as he threatened to do as recently as Sunday.
The reserve is there to cushion the blow of a market disruption; it’s not an open-market mechanism to manipulate prices for political ends
.

You think?

Now Alternative energy is on the way. In fact we are seeing Sci-FI like things becoming reality. However it will not be here overnight. I have a deal. Lets drill off shore plus invest in Nuclear, Solar, Natural Gas , and other things. It is called a compromise and we need it. Why can't we do both?

I had a discussion with all things a fellow Louisiana citizen that was wearing an Obama shirt that was clueless about offshore drilling. She said we don't want the pretty clear blue water off Florida to look like the Louisiana Gulf so no offshore drilling.

I tried to explain to the person ,that knows little about her native states oil Industry or it Environment ,that the waters off Louisiana do not look like Cancun because of the oil industry but because the Mississippi River empties into the Gulf and all that sediment from up in Yankee Land goes and muddies the waters and the pure amount of water coming in makes a hell of a commotion by itself.

As to the Environment I hear so much about. From yesterday NOAA and Louisiana Scientists Predict Largest Gulf of Mexico “Dead Zone” on Record This Summer

NOAA-supported scientists from the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium and Louisiana State University are forecasting that the “dead zone” off the coast of Louisiana and Texas in the Gulf of Mexico this summer could be the largest on record.
The researchers are predicting the area could measure a record 8,800 square miles, or roughly the size of New Jersey. In 2007, the dead zone was 7,903 square miles. The largest dead zone on record was in 2002, when it measured 8,481 square miles. The official measurement of this year’s dead zone is slated to be released in late July. Researchers began taking regular measurements of the dead zone in 1985.
"The prediction of a large dead zone this summer is due to a combination of large influx of nitrogen and exceptionally high flows from the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers,” said LSU scientist R. Eugene Turner.......

The strong link between nutrients and the dead zone indicates that excess nutrients from the Mississippi River watershed during the spring are the primary human-influenced factor behind the expansion of the dead zone,” said Rob Magnien, director of NOAA's Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research. “This analysis will greatly inform the development of federal, state and local efforts to reduce the dead zone’s size.”
The forecast is based on a mathematical model developed by LSU through NOAA’s long-term research investment by CSCOR’s Gulf of Mexico Ecosystems and Hypoxia Assessment. The model incorporates U.S. Geological Survey data on the amount of nitrogen reaching the Gulf of Mexico in May. NOAA has been funding investigations into the dead zone since 1990
.

Why is this happening? Why is this dead zone occuring that makes large parts of Louisiana Waters devoid of life and fish and thus creates a strain on America's Food supply? Oh and it hurts our economy

What is this nitrogen and why are those ignorant Louisians folks putting it in the water? Well we are not. Most of this comes from the midwest and the result of fertzilizer. That is now increasing because of Farming for ETHANOL products . The flooding in the Midwest is making it worse. You see we are the final garbage dump for this stuff.

But I am not hearing a peep from Pelosi or the Democrats or for that matter all the people that are concerned about Offshore Drilling. What a crock!!

It appears Mississippi is now threatened however I am pretty sure no one will give a damn. I guess the dead zone will have to reach Florida before Speaker Pelosi and the other people take notice what the true Crisis is.
